Those Blockheads!

I'm currently on Oni Island and am up to the bit with the Blockhead who needs five dots in the correct place to finish him. I've tried about twenty times now, and haven't been this frustrated with the Celestial Brush since the beginning of the game. I haven't had too much trouble with the previous guys; either a few tries or one did it, but I think I just got lucky with it to be honest, because suddenly five dots is proving to be a huge and unmovable pain.

So what do you guys think about the Blockhead? I was reading round the net and people seem to enjoy bragging that they "got it the first time" and "can't understand why other people find it hard". So do you guys find him a breeze, or a challenge? Were they always hard to you, or just when the number of required dots increased? Do you use any tricks like drawing on the TV (yes, I did read this!)? Are they amusing, or just plain annoying as far as obstacles go?

I just kept trying until it worked. It wasn't easy for me, but it still wasn't near as difficult as Blockhead Grande, whose pattern is 8 long. Using some form of video recording is a popular way to deal with it.

It helped me to learn that the dots appear on a 4x4 grid. Visualizing it as an inner 2x2 grid, with an outer perimeter helped break it up into understandable segments.

As it is, I ended up taking the other way to the top. I also read you can use a double jump and tackle to flip over him, but I thought that'd seem a bit too cheap! Let's hope I get lucky or figure it out better by the time I get to Blockhead Grande, haha.

Hah, yeah, good luck on Blockhead Grande. You're gonna need it. I only managed to defeat him at all on one of my play-throughs, and that was more-or-less sheer luck.

I completed this game 100%

And by that i mean every item collected, all the stray beads, and praise. I hate blockheads, and theres another optional one in kusa village. Blockhead granfe literally took 2 hours, you can believe how happy i was after that...

There IS an easier way!

It's kind-of cheating, but it worked really well for me.

Walk up to the tv and then trigger the Blockheads sequence.
Mark it w/ chapstick.

If I remember correctly.. the picture might distort a little when your in "drawing" mode. So if you have to use the brush slightly off from your chapstick marks, adjust accordingly.

Afterwards clean the tv lol.

If you have a nice hd tv or something, you may want to use some thing else, like pieces of post-it notes since the adhesive is weak. You know, improvise...

The first playthrough on Oni Island I probably tried 15 times before my brain finally kicked in and got creative.

I used my digital camera to take a picture of the screen when Blockhead revealed all his weak spots. When you take the picture at the end of the sequence, it's pretty evident which order to use the brush in, as the spots get smaller over time (smallest spot at the end = first, largest at the end = last).

It's a cheap thing to do, but I was frustrated enough and had tried many, many times.

Second playthrough it took 3 tries, no camera needed.
