Celtic 07/08 I decided to take over the reigning SPL champions Celtic, I knew the league would be relatively easy and was looking foreword to another crack at Europe (Something which i had been struggling with as Celtic in previous games) Here is a review of my season: After taking a look through the team i knew right away that i would need to strengthen over alot of positions, A new centre back and striker were my top priorities. Also a few unlucky players were not to my liking and found themselves on the transfer list. Here is a screen shot of my transfers from my first season in charge. ![]() Paulo Ferreira, Sergey Ignashevich and Salvador Cabanas were placed right into the starting 11, Whereas Bonaventure Kalou, Alexandre Song, Victor Anichebe, Santiago Solari, Hosain Kaebi and Billy Sharp were brought in just for extra cover. James McCarthy came from Hamilton as a player for the future and Yoann Gourcuff, Karl Svensson and Ben Sahar joined in January. (Although Sahar's stay was cut short as he torn a hamstring in training and was sent back to London) Those leaving Glasgow were mostly unwanted players and youth gaining some first team experience. Hutchinson, Caddis and Ferry were the only outgoing players who didn't leave Glasgow as they joined up with feeder club Partick Thistle. The league kicked off with a worrying 3-2 home win over Kilmarnock, Salvador Cabanas saved the day with a hat-trick, 2 of these goals coming in the last 10 minutes. After that league form picked up and we went undefeated until late January where we lost 1-0 away at Falkirk. In the end we drew 8 and lost 2. The other defeat a 1-0 loss to rivals Rangers at Celtic Park. Here is the final league table: ![]() Now onto Europe, we were drawn in group C along with Arsenal, Ajax and Toulouse FC after a promising 8-1 aggregate victory over Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia. We lost home and away to Arsenal although we deserved a point at least from the away game but were foiled thanks to Jens Lehman's goalkeeping. I was delighted to beat Ajax home and away dominating both ties. We also drew 2-2 away but were punished for not killing of the game by Andre Pierre Gignac in the 84th minute. So after these results we looked strong favorite's to finish second and join the other 15 hope fulls but our hopes were destroyed by a Johan Elmander hat-trick in a freak 5-2 home hammering. So we were knocked out of our group placed 3rd ahead of Ajax and drawn in the Uefa cup first round knockout's against Serbian's Red Star Belgrade who we brushed aside 5-2 on aggregate. Next we were drawn against Italian's Fiorentina, we came out on top of the home leg with a well deserved 3-2 victory. The team flew over to Italy to face them in the away leg, i was looking foreword to what i thought would be my last night in Europe for this year. What happened shocked me and Fiorentina, we found ourselves3-0up with 21 minutes played! The team managed to hold on to the result for the remainder of the leg thanks to some amazing defending. We had knocked out Fiorentina 6-2 over the 2 legs! Here is a screen shot of the away leg against Fiorentina: ![]() Next up we drew Italian mid table side Sampdoria, i was expecting an easier tie than the previous and was very happy with the draw. We proceeded to the semi finals after a 4-0 aggregate win in which both legs we dominated. In the semi's we drew Olympique De Marseille of France. First up they came to us at Parkhead, we battled to a 2-1 victory which in truth could have gone either way, The leg was settled courtesy of a 90th minute Billy Sharp goal. The next leg in France sealed our place in the final. 2 first half goals from Salvador Cabanas was enough to take us to Manchester So we took the trip down south to The City Of Manchester Stadium to face Sevilla who were 4th in the La liga, The game ended 1-0 to Sevilla in a tough fought game. Here is the screen shot of the final. As you can see the game started off well as Aiden Mcgeady snapped Navas and ended his night. ![]() In other competitions we won the Scottish Cup and the League cup against Aberdeen and Rangers. So, i had led Celtic to a domestic treble and there second Uefa cup final in my first season in charge. This was easily my best FM08 season to date. The Key players to the success were Ignashevich,Donati,Nakamura and Cabanas. Cabanas scored 57 goals in 57 games thanks to the terrific service from midfield and a few moments of magic himself. ![]() This message was edited by Fm_Scotland08 on Mar 08 2008. Arsenal || July 19, 2017 - July 3, 2021
The only regret i have of the Arsenal job is resigning too early, I needed just two more club trophies to complete the checklist but i resigned. The league was another strong point after regaining the title on matchday 37 and winning in on goal difference with Newcastle on 74 points. The FA Cup was won once again. We squeezed through the rounds beating West Ham in the third round 2-0. Oldham and Blackburn were knocked out in the fourth and fifth rounds by the same scoreline: 1-0. A strong challenge faced them in the Sixth Round, Chelsea. They were beaten 2-1. Off to Wembley and Leicester were beaten by a mesmerising 6-0 in the Semis. Liverpool were the last step to the FA Cup and it was an amazing match with Arsenal beating Liverpool 9-6. The Carling Cup was again won, but nearly not. Exeter were beaten resoundly in the third round, West Ham were squeezed past on penalties in the fourth round. Championship side, Hull were thrashed 4-2 in the Quarter Finals and 4-1 was the aggregate score over Birmingham City as they passed them in the semi finals and Ipswich were beaten in a second penalty shootout in the carling cup. Four club trophies alluded Jake Doyle in his career all European. The Champions League was won for the first time in Arsenal's history. But the group stage came first and Arsenal sailed through a group of Shakhtar, Marseille and Atletico Madrid. Sporting CP was a tricky tie in the second round but a 2-0 win at the Emirates got them through on away goals which led them to Leicester who thrashed them 4-0 at the Walkers Stadium but a 5-0 win on the return leg got them to the semi finals. Another English side faced them in the semi finals. A 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium left Newcastle with the advantage but were beaten 5-4 at St. James' Park which left Arsenal with AC Milan in the final and two Carlos Vela goals got the Champions League. Mexico || June 20, 2021 - July 10, 2022 A quick stint was needed at an international side to break away from the pressure. This was overall, unsucessful. With Mexico winning the Gold Cup the year before I joined, they were entered into the Confederations Cup. We got through a group of Spain, South Africa and Solomon Islands. We faced Argentina and were sensationally dumped out of the competition 4-0. Fourth place was ours after Spain beat us 3-2. We successfully qualified for the 2022 World Cup, we may as well not turned up because we gained one points in group with Italy, Nigeria and Colombia. I was sacked. Spain || July 17, 2022 - July 19, 2026 Four years and two days was the successful period i spent at Spain. We qualified for the 2024 European Championships in Scotland and Wales. Portugal, Belgium and Ireland was the task in the groups which we past with ease beating Portugal and Belgium but drawing with Ireland. We went on to face Czech Republic in the Quarter Finals in which a bore draw went to penalties where what seemed an age past when the deciding penalty was kicked in a 15-14 shootout. France were easily dispatched in the semi finals 2-1. Which meant Germany were the final test in EURO 2024. They were beaten 2-0. Qualification for the 2026 World Cup was easy, winning all except one, the last match which was a draw. A 100% record in the group stage was confirmed with wins over Iran, Turkey and South Africa. Another easy test in the second round was Egypt, who were put away in a 3-0 scoreline. 3-0 was the scoreline as we put away France, who we beat in 2024 in the semi finals of the European Championships. Brazil, the best team in the world were beaten in the semi finals, 2-0. After 1 minute, we had conceded our first knockout stage goal, this was in the final against England, we scored twice to get my second world cup. I left for Brazil after this. Manchester United || June 24, 2023 - June 4, 2025 Relegation Strugglers, Manchester United was the next challenge. We achieved a european spot in the first season as manager of Manchester United, a very respectable 7th said the United board. The cups weren't our strong point as we were knocked out in the second round of the Carling Cup and the fourth round of the FA Cup. Another trophy awaited us in pre-season as we qualified for the UEFA Cup via the Intertoto Cup. A very disappointing 13th place was enough to get me sacked as Manchester United boss, along with a disappointing FA Cup and Carling Cup campaigns which got me to the fourth round of the FA Cup and the last eight of the Carling Cup. In the UEFA Cup we scraped through a group consisted of Bayern Munich, CFR Cluj, Slavia Sofia and Olympiakos. Celtic awaited us in the third round of the UEFA Cup. At Old Trafford we put Celtic away in a very entertaining 5-3 win. We looked for a draw, a win or a small loss would put us through but Celtic beat us 4-2 which knocked us out on away goals. My UEFA Cup dream was gone. Newcastle United || June 23, 2026 - Present Day I joined very successful Newcastle United, who had money to burn. I signed Luca Pellegrini for £30m who had knocked in 56 goals in 52 games [April 22, 2027]. The league was going very well as we closed in on it and currently have 7 games left with 2 games in hand over Manchester United and we are now sitting in first place with nine points ahead. The Carling Cup was going so well until we were dumped out of it in the final at Wembley. West Ham were stuffed 9-0 in the third round and the fourth round was forced into extra time against Charlton, we finished 2-1. Both sides of Manchester were faced in the last rounds before the final and they were both beaten until the fatal Carling Cup day when we were knocked out after 120 minutes. We were beaten 3-2. The FA Cup wasn't our strong point. We started off well with a 5-2 win over Ipswich in the third round and Leeds were victims at St. James' Park after a 2-1 victory. Portsmouth stopped us dead, 1-0 in the fifth round. We are still in the UEFA Cup and it has been very good for us, we beat Pobeda 20-0 on aggregate in the first round, we progressed to the group stages and onto the third round through a group of Germinal Beerschot, AEK Athens, Bayer Leverkusen and Boavista and we topped the group. Zenit St. Petersburg and Werder Bremen were left for dead in the third and fourth rounds. Sevilla were stuffed 4-0 on aggregate in the semi finals which left us with AC Milan in the semi final and Manchester City against Galatasaray in the other semi final. -------------------

Sunderland 2007/08 ![]() Introduction After looking at the new challenge set by Number_26 I decided to take part and manage Sunderland AFC. This was the first time I'd ever managed a newly promoted side so the first season was all about damage limitation and simply surviving. History Sunderland have been a bit of a yo-yo team during the last decade: Returning to the EPL in the 1999/00 season and finishing an impressive 7th two seasons on the bounce. In 2003 they were sadly relegated after a record low of just four wins, 21 goals and 19 points. They were back for the 2005/06 season where they managed to break their own record with a dire three wins and 15 points. They returned to top flight football after winning The Championship in the 2006/07 season under the managment of ex-Manchester United legend: Roy Keane. Season Transfers ![]() I was delighted with the seasons signings; with Vagner Love and Jarolim becoming key members of the squad from the day they signed. Approaching January the board boosted the budget enabling me to sign D'Agostino and Sammarco who both played important parts in the second half of the season. The loans of both Marin and Malonga were cancelled at different points during the season once they became surplus to requirements while both Josse and Fauvergue stayed till the season close. ![]() Pre-Season ![]() Although against weaker opposition I was very impressed with both the attacking defensive prowess with the team scoring 18 goals and only conceding two. Fauvergue and Chopra lead the scoring with five goals each. This earned Fauvergue two MOMs; making him the 'in-form' player as the season approached. August - October ![]() A miserable start to the season with only an early win in the League Cup against League 2: Accrington to smile about until the first EPL wins arrived at the very end of October. The First of these coming against fellow relegation favourites: Birmingham. An early relegation six-pointer for Sunderland. Vagner Love lead Sunderland's scoring charts with six EPL goals (seven in all comps). While loan signings Fauvergue and Josse scored a combined six goals in all competitions. Premiership Awards August Manager of the Month: Rafa Benitez - Liverpool Player of the Month: Emmanuel Adebayor - Arsenal Young Player of the Month: Wayne Rooney - Man Utd September Manager of the Month: Sir Alex Ferguson - Man Utd Player of the Month: Cristiano Ronaldo - Man Utd Young Player of the Month: Matt Derbyshire - Blackburn Rovers October Manager of the Month: Kevin Keegan - Newcastle Utd Player of the Month: Adrian Mutu - Arsenal Young Player of the Month: Maxime Josse - Sunderland November - January ![]() Sunderland managed to keep their form from the end of October into November and December with four wins and three draws in the nine games leading up to the New Year. Within this run of good form came two of Sunderland's best results of the season: A 2-2 draw against Manchester Utd and an even more impressive 3-2 win against Liverpool. During this period of good form it was Prica who shone as Sunderland's star man while he netted eight times, earning himself two MOMs. Also being awarded for their fine form was goalkeeper Craig Gordon who earned himself two MOMs for his performances between the sticks. Vagner Love continued to find the net with a total of six goals while Jarolim scored his first goals for the club in quick succession. Loan signing Josse continued to impress with a further two goals from the center of defense to take his season tally to four. Premiership Awards November Manager of the Month: Sir Alex Ferguson - Manchester Utd Player of the Month: Hameur Bouazza - Fulham Young Player of the Month: Manuel Fernandes - Everton December Manager of the Month: Arsene Wenger - Arsenal Player of the Month: Cristiano Ronaldo - Manchester Utd Young Player of the Month: Nani - Manchester Utd January Manager of the Month: Arsene Wenger - Arsenal Player of the Month: Anderson - Manchester Utd Young Player of the Month: Matt Derbyshire - Blackburn Rovers February - May ![]() The final third of the season contanined a mixed bag of results for Sunderland as they lost seven of the remaining 14 games while winning six of them. One of these wins turned out to be arguably one of the most exciting games of the season where the two teams scored three of the six goals in the space of four minutes. Love and Prica were on fire during the later stages of the season with eight and six goals respectively. Pica added a further three MOM awards to his name, totalling five for the season. Sammarco opened his account follwing his January transfer move to England while Jarolim added a further two goals to his tally. Premiership Awards February Manager of the Month: Avram Grant - Chelsea Player of the Month: Jermain Defoe - Portsmouth Young Player of the Month: Matt Derbyshire - Blackburn Rovers March Manager of the Month: Mark Hughes - Blackburn Rovers Player of the Month: Alfonso Alves - Middlesbrough Young Player of the Month: Matt Derbyshire - Blackburn Rovers April Manager of the Month: Arsene Wenger - Arsenal Player of the Month: John Terry - Chelsea Young Player of the Month: John Obi Mikel - Chelsea End of Season ![]() New signing Vagner Love finished the season on 21 goals with Prica following closely with 19 along with his five MOM awards. Jarolim provided an astounding 20 assists, making him the highest assister in the EPL. Craig Gordon made the most appearances for the team, missing only a handful of games. ![]() Sunderland ended a good year back in the top flight with a respictable 13th place. A great achievment for the team many tipped to go down. Arsenal topped the table six points clear of Manchester Utd and Chelsea while over achievers Manchester City shocked fans and pundits alike as they finished ahead of Liverpool in 4th place. Premiership Awards Footballer of the Year: Cristiano Ronaldo - Manchester Utd Manager of the Year: Arsene Wenger - Arsenal Players' Player of the Year: Frank Lampard - Chelsea Players' Young Player of the Year: Ryan Babel - Liverpool Players' Team of the Year In other competitions Newcastle finally had something to smile about as they beat Chelsea 2-1in the FA Cup Final. Along with their winners medals, the Newcastle players also picked up runners up medals in the League Cup as they lost 2-1 to Manchester Utd in the final. _____________________ The took bleedin' ages!!
