I saw that game on Rpgmaker.net. Not played it yet, although from the screenshots, it's the most beautiful RPG Maker game I've ever seen.

Would have to give that a go sometime for RMXP, although I've only got Fireworks installed (pretty much a basic version of Photoshop designed more for web designers).

harbin91 I don't think the guy released it, I'm not sure if he ever even released a demo. I found his profile on an RPG Maker forum and he had stopped the project entirely, and only this year returned to begin a new project. Isn't GIMP free? Might be worth having a look. You only need a program that has layers, supports transparency, and customization grids so you can have 32 x 32 pixel squares to help you keep everything in line.



Rabla Rather than using a parallax to have a fancy backdrop for the map, you can use a parallax to be the map itself. After making the base of the map (walls and floors), the next step is to screenshot the map and put it in photoshop or any other decent image manip program, and then get to work. It allows you to make the map on photoshop rather than the in-game editor giving you many possibilities. Here's a great set of tiles made specifically for parallaxing.

It's also a good way to work around problems with the map editor. For example, rugs and stairs with rugs to not fit together, they end up like this. More to note, rugs move around walls when they at times should be behind them. Shift clicking (which gives the result in the top right when using a rug for example) can't fix this as you can see just below the lower set of stairs, it's something you'll have to avoid if you're a perfectionist and do not parallax map. A few minutes in photoshop however, and you can correct the autotile issues. I just needed to put that image on a map via the map properties, and with the script I use, it makes the parallax move when I do, it acts exactly like tiles. Next just use two blank squares in the map editor, one that is passable, and one that is not passable, and go over the parallax accordingly. When playing the game it will just be another map, playing no differently than one made in the editor.

You're right about the trees though, it's a problem, but one that can be overcome with a little extra work. Making the main body of the trees in a parallax and then adding the edges in RPG Maker. I've actually seen some scripts for animated parallaxes, I've no idea how good they are, or even how they work though.

Unfortunately, we're not all as talented as you are. If I had the skill and enjoyment of spritemaking you did, I'd make my own tiles too.

I used XP all those years ago and then I stopped using it for a couple of years, last year I was shown VX by my cousin and to my shock it was the RPG Maker series. I was completely oblivious to a new sequel (and very late), and downloaded it straight away. I hadn't played XP in a few years so I guess it wasn't fresh in my mind to compare with VX's distasteful style.
