RPGfan.com is a well respected RPG news site, and have been for a very long time. Unless their source is tring to start a rumor (why?) I'm pretty sure this is correct, no matter how odd it may sound. But then again who knows? Maybe something got lost in translation?

And also, they are not "remaking" any of the previous Star Ocean games, they were simply ported to the PSP. And as explained before, a concept like this could easily have some sort of reference to the events of Star Ocean 3, where we found out about the Eternal Sphere.
