General Discussion I : Artists and Crafters wanted.

Hello everyone.

As you can see, Art Central now has a moderator (myself), and this is a sign for change for the forum. Now you might be wondering: Will anything change? What will happen now? Who is this crazy awesome lady? Well I assure you I am here to answer those questions as well as put the trolls, no good doers, and other such baddies in their place as is necessary.

Despite my intent to answer these questions as soon as possible, I must first finish one of many lists that tell me what I inted to do. However, I can assure you that each change will be presented here in the General Discussion as I make them.

First goal, as always, is to tackle rules threads and other such things in the stickies. It is important to know what is relevant and not relevant anymore, and what new things will, and will not be allowed. The next goal is to organize a header contest to change the header, some small forum side events, and start doing the gallery and central organization transitions.

Just a sneak peak on one of the things I intend to do: Make the Gallery where the art work goes, and make Central where Art is discussed. Why you ask? To organize! A clean and neat forum draws people in as well as a charming hostess such as myself after all.

I know I personally would not want to post work somewhere that looks dingy, and very under construction, would you?

Now that it is over, thank you for reading my essay of an introduction. Leave your introductions, congratulations, and other such tidbits in here. Suggestions are always welcome, but please do not be a bully, and/or bear about them. Thanks!

And if you have any complaints shuffle them straight to my PM box, I will answer in a prompt fashion to whatever issues you have.

Don't be nervous, please. I promise I don't bite hard. If there is the slim possibility I did, which i won't *lie*, you would not grow fur in unusual places, and/or gain an insatiable craving for blood and/or meat. However, what I can do is offer some further insight in updates:

• Starting from the last page of Art Central, I will be moving threads into the Art Gallery that feature members arts.

• I will replace the Artist Index with an Artist Profile thread as well that will feature in the Artist Gallery, but have a link to from Art Central. This will make sure active artists are listed, and not inactives. A lot of inactive threads are just riddled with broken images and "images not found."

• And, as you can see, I've already started remodeling the Rules thread to cater to both Gallery and Central. This is done to effectively treat the Forum and respective Sub-Forum as one whole entity and not two seperate creatures.

So, I've got art classes and for some reason I'm stuck in a Pre IB one and he's now teaching us perspective. I have to say this is my most hated lesson so far. It's so boring.
Don't get me wrong, the class itself is not boring at all, but compared to how things usually are, this is too average for art students. At least during the project I get to add wings to my buildings.
Art's so much fun. There's no other class like it. You're allowed to walk on tables or just get up and jump around for no reason.
My art teacher's pretty cool too. He's funny. I was talking while he was talking about a week ago and he threw a marker at my head. :3

I had art once in middle school. The guy was pretty laid back and stuff. I was just able to do whatever I wanted but I wasn't learning anything since it wasn't a class set aside to actually teach people art. That's why I'm greatful for the current class.
I'm sorry, but I no like pastels. I'm not a messy artist. o ^ o
I'll just stick with pen, pencil, and computer coloring for the rest of my life. :3

Heh.. i see you guys and girls are pretty lucky above.. to have art teacher that REALLY taught art.. as for me.. well i got art lesson since Elementary school BUT without any feelings that i learn Art..

That situation continues for over 9 years (6 years of elementary school.. and 3 years of hmm Junior high school) .. when i reach Senior high school (say.. grade 10) .. situation changed hehehe i can finally learn ART which i like . However there were no drawings.. (art class in my senior high schools were filled with photoshops, photography and cinematography, fun but not true field which i want to learn) .

I learned drawing animes.. and all of things i posted here in my art thread by myself.. with some supports mainly from my Juniors.. which provided books for free and some inspirations and the internet.

I really don't want to sound like a dick or anything but I'm a bit...confused, in all honestly.

Firstly we already had a General Discussion Thread, in it's third iteration in fact. Along with this and the new Index-type thread it kind of feels like all the old stuff is being cast out and scrapped for a reboot. Although it is true that the Forum is absolutely desperate for some new life to be breathed into it, for many many years LanDi and Wraith put their heart and soul into this place and it feels like all that might be going/gone...

Also, though you do raise a good point about the Forum being somewhat messy with picture threads mixed in with general art threads the Gallery was already kinda sorting that problem by having posts with just those members pictures in as opposed to having lots of comments spreading them out (I know Fanart.Neoseeker can somewhat do this, but people don't just do Fanart (Or do Fanart for series that don't qualify for submission). Is there really enough general arty discussions threads just for activity here in Art Central? It's no lie that activity here is quite dead now so wouldn't that idea be like spreading out the activity there already is into two Forums?

Again, not trying to be the dickhead, just wanted to raise some issues. If you can get this Forum truly alive again then fantastic, and best of luck to you, I'm just concerned.

This is not an attempt to blot out Wraith and LanDi's mark on the forum. It is an attempt to restructure and rebuild to draw in people beyond just artists who only draw, and to draw in people who appreciate art in general. Art Central shouldn't just be focused on how to draw, but on the aspects and history of art as well. This generates several potential topic areas that can be discussed within Art Central, leaving the Gallery as a place to post your work. Then there would be more posting guilde lines there for people to post threads and state whether or not they want people posting in their threads or not. Thread content will be controlled by the artist, and enforced by the moderator. There will be more explanation on that point later when I get to it.

And I'm just going to throw this out there: For the knowledgeable who were around way back in the 2002-2006 time period, I created the NDL. I worked for days organizing and piecing it together. In the years I was gone I was blotted out as time progressed. The forum I made progressively mutating into something than what I had originally envisioned. Because of this, I do not ever hold the intent to just ink out the history of the forum and make it my own beast with no trace of past influences.

What I do is acknowledge that change must be made so something can grow and expand. Being conservative, trying to keep things the same, and to control it with an iron fist are not the right way to draw in new people. The forum, as well as all of SI needs change to move forward, and holding onto past memories is not going to do that. The NDL had to change to draw in people, and I accepted that as a fact. I didn't let myself become disheartened because people decided to stop even giving me credit for making it (eventhough I'll admit I pouted a little at first before I got over it).

Shit even RP is ran completely different than what I did with it all those years ago...



And BTW the last post on GD3 is Well over a Year old, in fact the last post was made in July of 2010. That makes it at 1yr3mo old.
