During THQ's earnings report, the big whigs on hand announced that they'll be releasing a Saints Row sequel sometime next year. They went on to say that they've canceled plans for porting the original Saints Row to the PS3 and will be using all that team's resources for Saints Row 2. So, Saints Row will remain an Xbox 360 exclusive for the foreseeable future, if not forever.

We also can't help but draw a connection between the cancellation of the PS3 port and the release of Grand Theft Auto IV later this year. The competition would not be good for a ported PS3 version of Saints Row, so they probably figured why waste the cash. Speaking of GTA IV, is anyone interested enough in the Saints Row franchise to buy it on top of GTA IV (or ignore a GTA purchase all together) or were all those Saints Row sales filling a GTA void at the time?

Depends how good it is. I liked the first one on the 360, so I'll probably end up getting this one but I'll get it for the PS3.

I was pretty devastated with the cancelation of the first game for PS3 and will definately buy this sequel when it comes out.

All they'd need to do for me really is release basically the first game but with enhanced graphics and a different storyline.

I don't know which game will be better, 3dkiller, but the info on the official SR2 site is nothing to get excited about, certainly nothing to lead one to believe it will be better, worse or equal to GTA IV. I think the game is going to be awesome, particularly with the addition of flyables as Volition supposedly promised, but I don't see how we can make a determination or comparison betweem two games that are not only not yet released, but that have very little information about them yet.

Oh and I think SR is awesome. However, it does have a lot of flaws in it that I believe need to be addressed.

September is always a really good release date.

I have heard rumors of a Summer release as well as a Fall release. September seems as possible as any of the months I have read.

4 months to clock GTAIV a couple of times and have some fun, and then buy SR2 and have a go at that.

That also gives us two months to mess around with SR2 before the Episodic DLC is released for GTA IV. The timing for all of this couldn't have been better if Rockstar and Volitions coordinated their efforts for our benefit.
