Keeping this game for the next gen

I want get a Wii U and play Mario Kart Wii on that.

I don't want to use the transfer, I'd rather just start a new game and have my Wii U save from there on.

What I want to know is will Wii U be able to save Mario Kart Wii on it's hard drive?

I don't mind starting over, but I need the Wii U to make a save file.

There is no way am I using data transfer.

Would I still be able to unlock Rosalina through the Mario Galaxy save file plus 50 races method?

You would have to play Mario Galaxy on the Wii U first to create the data then do the 50 races then you should unlock Rosalina

It isn't, he can play Mario Galaxy 1 on his Wii U to create the save data then play Mario Kart Wii on the Wii U and he should unlock Rosalina.

No need for system transfer, the Wii U can save data for Wii games on it's hard drive, so things like Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart and Smash bros; he doesn't need to wait for a new Galaxy, he can use the first game.

Yes, Wii U is backwards compatible, you can play any Wii game on it, from Mario Kart to the Last Story, the Wii U will create data on it's hard drive so that you can save, I plan on doing a data transfer so that I have all my data on the Wii U so I don't have to start over, but whether you do the transfer or not is your choice.

Joking, I read a lot of the information released about the Wii U, Nintendo themselves have said that the Wii U is backwards compatible with Wii games such as Mario Kart, which means that it can play any Wii game; being able to save data for them is obviously going to happen, it would be ridiculous if it could play Wii games but not save them.

Well when you start playing Mario Kart on the Wii U you have a choice, you can start all over, or you can transfer your Mario Kart Wii data onto the Wii U, either with system transfer, or you can put an SD card in your Wii and copy Mario kart data onto it then put the SD card in your Wii U and copy it onto that, at least that's what I think you will be able to do, I could be wrong.
