Well, this computer started as an HP a867c.... I upgraded it with an ATi X700Pro back in late '05.

In July, I decided to upgrade my video card and power supply. Everything arrived, the PSU fit perfectly, BUT, the video card wouldn't fit. What happened was, the IDE slot was about a MILIMETER TOO DAMN LOW ON THE MOTHERBOARD for the video card to fit. >_>

So I bought a new case, mobo, RAM, and some Arctic Silver, and upgraded to this. I'm still using the original Pentium 4, heatsink, Hard drive, and a DVD drive from the HP. Other than that, everything is new!

    Slight update:

I found out exactly what hard drive I have! [link name=It's a Maxtor DiamondMax10 6B250S0

    October 13, 2007

Oh snap! My RAM was running as single channel ram ever since the PC was put together. However, the RAM is meant to run as Dual Channel! I've fixed it now, and new benchmarks are in progress!
    November 20, 2007

SHIT. Massive overheating going on, processor underclocked itself by a full 1GHz. Q6600 and CNPS9700NT are en route. How do I know it's wrong? Read what's goin on:

    quote guticb
*bleep*. My PC's processor/heatsink are dying. My processor is running 70 celsius IDLE. It's not supposed to hit that temperature at 100% load. 0_0

Not only that, but my PC has been slow as *bleep* lately, and there's no spyware, no adware, no viruses. Not only that, but it's being picked up as 2.4Ghz, rather than 3.4.

I'm gonna get this POS replaced, then re-save up for the 360 I was RIGHT ABOUT TO BUY. >_>

    What I'm about to buy.

And yeah, I am also getting 2 case fans, just to lower temps and noise a bit. My case came with a slot for one more, and with one that's pretty darn loud
    November 26, 2007

YES! I got all the parts installed! New benchmarks and some pics will be up soon! Actually, I might wait till after Christmas for the pics. I'm gettin a new Digital Camera for Christmas!

By the way, y'all like my average temperatures at idle?

    Pictures are up.

    November 26, 2007

    HELL YES!

This is the first overclock I've ever done on anything. I have revision 3.3 of the motherboard running BIOS F12, and a G0 stepping Q6600.

It idles at 40C and hits 50C at load which seems safe imo.

I've already stressed it with Prime95 and a 32m SuperPi test with zero stability issues. This is awesome! =]

Oh, and FSB is 355 (355X9=3195MHz)

    Comments? Concerns? Questions?

Looking good! I look forward to seeing some pictures of it. That looks like an overall good computer.

I hate it when parts are too close to fit. On my current computer, the video card power connection and a harddrive power connection are actually touching each other, and I have to take the video card out just to even do anything to my top 2 harddrives. My solution? bigger case coming soon:P

It's the first time it happened to me, but if it happens again..... *Insert obviously fake threat here* and I mean it!

The IDE cable that connects the 2 DVD drives to the mobo is touching the video card, but that's about as close I'm getting to any issues. Oh, and the GameXStream came with enough wiring to hang myself and four others at once, so I barely found a way to hide all those stupid cables. >_>

Yeah, I know what you mean with the gamexstream! I have the 700 watt version of it. I measured the molex/sata cables, and they are 3 feet long! I have a full ATX case, and even they are too long sometimes. Othertimes its too short. Its good for wire management, but I can never get them to be the right lenght. Either the connections are too far apart to connect the drives, or they arnt close enough for close drives.

I have a ton of them behind the motherboard tray.

oh wel... but then i do love scrolling through big coding documents and exel project files quickly...

How long is your battery lasting? I have heard it only lasts 2 days... but then mine lasts about 7 days with playing games about 2 hours a day and mucking around on it for about 8 hours a day..... and i;m still on the juice from last weekend... thats 8 days now....

    so hows urs?

It's pretty good. I'm on my 3rd one already though. What keeps happening to me is, after a few months of use, the frictionless mode breaks and refuses to work. Luckily, Logitech tech support is awesome.

I use mine about 6-8 hours a day, and it still hasn't run out on me. I charge it every night though, just in case.

    I've got a question.

I was wondering, would it be smart to do a slight overclock on my RAM? This could possibly be my first ever overclock, and apparently, people have had some great results overclocking the RAM I've got in my PC.

    re: Guticb's pwnage Rig

Corect me if i'm wrong but I always thought ram would clock itself in relation to the cpu's speed (frequency). So if i'm correct I think if you just do a mild oc on your processor your ram would get itself a small boost in speed as well.

At the moment, OCing my processor is out of the question. I'm still using a stock heatsink that came with my HP computer.

you can over clock just fine on a stock heatsink. Granted you probably wont get a 1ghz over clock, but you can still clock it up a bit.

Heat only comes from voltage. You can overclock without upping the voltage just fine, this way you wont run the risk of damaging any parts either.

Heh, I found my heatsink on Ebay. Apparently, it's a copper base one, and HP used it for P4s up to 3.8GHz

It's a Coolermaster KDH-5065H. Do you think it would be safe to do a slight OC on it with this heatsink? If so, how much should I attempt, and how would I go about doing it?

Awesome rig dude. The only thing left to upgrade is to a core 2 duo, which are quite affordable. The rest of the pc is gg pwnage.

Heh, I'm still in debt for the next 5 weeks, and then there are TONS of games I want to get for my PS3, so no C2D this year.

Meanwhile, I want to OC my Pentium 4 and get some better performance from it without having to change coolers.

So, any tips on how I should do my first ever OC?

Edit: Hmmm, almost every guide I look at for overclocking is OLD (AKA, from 2000 or 2001). Anyone know of any good guides for it?

Also, is it possible to do it with a program, rather than by entering the BIOS?

With a P4, its going to be very difficult to OC without aftermarket cooling. Those chips run HOTT. And it is possible with programs, but its not very reliable/stable etc. Your better off with the BIOS.
