How much of a savings is it? And is it the last thing you need before you have a running computer?

just an update, i ordered another OCZ ZX 1KW from a swedish site, along with the F3 1TB. should be here in 3 to 10 days. then i shall know if any other parts were destroyed...

That's pretty much the same thing I said when I thought about getting an SSD shortly after Christmas. I decided against it because I'd rather put some money towards a different upgrade (I actually bought the 460 instead) and because I could only afford a 60GB SSD, which wouldn't have been enough for what I actually wanted to put on it.

With a 2500K and a 1TB F3, it's still going to be booting pretty damn quickly anyway.

When a certain dickhead "PC repair guy" connected a PCI-e cable to my motherboard's AUX power socket when putting the PC together, the result was a damaged graphics card.

I'm not sure if the motherboard was burned out too but the GPU was screwed.

(He'd basically put power through the AUX socket but in the wrong polarity)

i considering one other possibility that could have cause the PSU failure, but i think it is highly unlikely. youre probably aware that my PSU is modular, so its a matter of plugging cables in on both ends. now i mentioned that i got extension cables. this was also on the same day that my PSU died. upon closer examination of the cables that came with the PSU, this is what i found...

the 24 pin motherboard cable does not match pin for pin on both sides. they cross over. this is normal...not a problem. but, if i add the extension cable on to it, does it change anything? the extension cable is matched pin for pin on both sides, so no cross over occurs. the exact same thing applies to the 8 pin aux. cable too. regarding the way i plugged in each cable, from the PSU, i have the normal 24 pin cable, then the extension cable, which them plugs in to the motherboard. however, the 8 pin cable is a little different. the extension cable plugs in to the psu, then to the normal 8 pin, which then plugs in to the motherboard.

again, this is highly unlikely to be the cause, but could it be a reason why i had this problem?

no that was my second attempt. my first attempt, or should i say first problematic startup was with everything connected. my concern is that if the wiring did indeed become incorrect, that it started doing something undesireable. it may not have run long enough to start screwing over the psu until later on, but like i said, i dunno, and its highly unlikely.

ive inspected my cables. nothing seemed to show even remote signs of being burned or damaged in any way.
