Racing went into the match against Sampdoria top of Group H and knowing a win would take them into the knockout rounds. Sampdoria themselves were looking for a win to qualify and they were sitting at a commandable 2nd place in the Seria A.

• Racing 2-0 Linares - With us leading 6-0 from the first leg I tried to include some bench players such as Enyeama and Sciorilli. We battered Linares again but only came away with a 2-0 win. But we were through to the next round of the cup.
  
  
• Racing 3-2 Getafe - The players showed great determination and team spirit in this well fought game against over acheiving Getafe. We lead 1-0 and they pulled it back, then we lead 3-1 and a bit of panic crept in when they pulled it back to 3-2 but the players hung on for a deserved victory.
  
  
• Racing 2-0 Hajduk - The second game of a tricky UEFA cup group. The lads were determined to get the win and make up for the draw against Wigan and win they did with goals from Esparza and a last minute Diarra strike secured the win.
  
  
• Racing 1-1 Cadiz - Judging by the league table many pundits labelled this as 2 points dropped but that was not the case. We were outplayed and many thought we didn't look like scoring but as he has showed he can do Fabio Aurelio belted in a cracking free kick to save the point.
  
  
• Racing 2-0 Deportivo - Both teams created few shots on goal but we took ours and produced goals, from early on when Kuranyi scored again we didn't look like losing.

In a game worthy of being a final Racing Santander were crowned Uefa Cup Winners 2010/2011. Racing went into the Half time break 2-0 up but Chelsea battled back and at Full time the match was tied at 4-4. Extra Time brought no goals so it was down to the dreaded shootout in which Racing won 5 Penalties to 4.

"I'm clearly disappointed with the result as we have a better calibre of players but take nothing away from Hunt his team were brilliant and we were lucky we could pull the game back from Half time." - Irureta, Chelsea manager.

Racing took the lead on Seventeen minutes when Lucas Leiva punted the ball into the Chelsea area and after a scramble the ball fell to Alou Diarra who prodded it into the back of the net claiming his 10th goal of the season.

Eight minutes later Pablo Zabaleta doubled Racing's lead from inside the area with a sweetly struck volley from another cross from the impressive Lucas.

Half time passed and there seemed to be little improvement from Chelsea as Kuranyi netted Racing's third, making the most of a horror back pass from Chelsea's Marco Andreolli.

Within seconds of the Kick off Chelsea got back into the game as Giorkas Seitaridis under pressure from striekr Adriano put the ball into his own net.

Chelsea were starting to get back into the game now and three minutes later a neat passing movement was finished professionally by Brazilian Adriano.

The Racing players hadn't given up though and a great counter attacking move started by Jaja saw Midfielder Billy Jones net a screamer from outside the box.

Yet again Chelsea pressed on and they found a way past the Racing defence when Connor Clifford beat his man and swung in a cross for Robben to get Chelsea back into the game.

Chelsea desperate efforts in the final minutes paid off again when a long ball was flicked into the path of Clifford by Sahar and Clifford made no mistake.

Both halfs of extra time brought no goals so it was off to the dreaded shootout for both teams. Many had backed Chelsea in this situation due to Pétr Cech's big frame but Racing's Ivorian keeper Francois Kóne pulled off a great save from Robben to ensure Racing would clinch the trophy.
