Trying to install ubuntu, but I don't even get to the installation part. |
|
I have a cd with ubuntu on it.
I leave it in the cd drive. Turn off and turn on boot options picked cd drive first it "skips" the cd and loads windows. -------------------

Chances are you didn't burn the disc right. In Windows, go to My Computer and click on the CD icon that pops up. Do you see one .iso file or do you see a lot of different files and folders?

So it wasn't burned right. You need to burn the ISO to a disc using something like ISO Recorder which will actually copy the data in the ISO file onto the disc. ISOs are image files and are a very useful method for keeping things together in an easily burnable format when they're needed by a certain device (ie. a PS2) or when there's a special bit of code that makes the CD bootable (ie. *nix installation media). By burning the ISO itself you've copied the image file itself onto the disc and not the actual data.

All you have to do is re-burn the CD properly. It's pretty simple with ImgBurn.

You don't want to reburn the CD, which takes about 5 minutes from downloading ImgBurn to having a working CD, but you want to try a harder alternative to installing Ubuntu such as off a USB stick or over a network?
CD is the best way by far. Seriously. ------------------- "Give a man a link, and he'll have information for a day, teach him to Google and he'll never bug you again."

Applications > Add/Remove software is a start. Make sure that you check the box to show third party software (or something along those lines).

If you had a hard time working with Ubuntu, you will have no luck with a Hackintosh, to be honest. You gotta have the exact kinda hardware for the right disk. I haven't been able to get one running yet.
