I've always thought Dark Force is much harder to beat than Mother Brain! If you've beaten Dark Force then you have more than enough strength to kill the Brain, so keep attacking.

For me, Phantasy Star 2 would have to be my all time favorite, though I've never played 4. PSO isn't even the same kind of game. Really, for all their hi-res 3-D graphics modern RPGs can't compare to the old school ones, just because of how easy they are. I remember spending hours lost in the dungeons of PS2, slowly turning catatonic as the corridors stretched on and on and monsters attacked out of every corner. Nowadays in an RPG, you either walk down a short hallway and you're there *coughFF10cough*, or you get an automap feature - something which makes the very concept of a maze quite meaningless. *sigh*
