[Game] 20 Questions Dissidia - Round 3 "Choose a Side - What Will You Fight For?"

Welcome to 20 Questions Dissidia

Rules taken from my Dynasty Warriors 20Q Game and modified for this forum

It's really simple! This is 20 Questions with a Final Fantasy theme. One person picks an object and everyone else tries to guess the object asking 'Yes' or 'No' Questions.

What makres this game special is Ability Points. You earn AP for stumping and guessing objects. You can then use this AP to level up and earn skills that help you stump other players more easily or help you guess objects more easily. Here's how you earn AP:

Guessers
100AP for asking a 'Yes' Question
150AP for every question left on a list when you guess the object (So if you guess the object on Q18 - you'd get 450AP)

If you guess the object you also get control of the next round.

Stumper
3000AP for stumping everyone

Once you get your AP you can PM me or post in this thread and I'll update your information on the Scoreboard.

Here are some general rules:

Anyone can join in whenever they want.

Just ask a question and you're in. I'll put your name on the Scoreboard as soon as you have at least 50AP.

-------------------

Picking an Object

In the Dynasty Warriors forum, some people started to pick some pretty ridiculous objects. I really don't want to limit what you guys are able to pick, but there have to be SOME boundaries.

1. OBJECT MUST PERTAIN DIRECTLY TO ONE OF THE FOLLOWING SOURCES:
    ALLOWED SOURCE
    Final Fantasy I - Final Fantasy X
    Dissidia: Final Fantasy
OBECT CAN NOT BE FROM THE FOLLOWING SOURCES:
    Final Fantasy XI
    Fianl Fantasy XII
    Final Fantasy XIII
    Final Fantasy Tactics Series
    Crystal Chronicles Series
    Kingdom Hearts Series
    Final Fantasy VII/IV/X Spin-offs
2. NO COMPOUND OBJECTS
    You can't combine two different objects. For example "Holy Lance" is a very specifc object and "Kain" is another very specific object. You cannot combine these into "Kain's Holy Lance."

    The grey area here, is of course, costume peices. Things like "Firion's Rose" are pretty important in the GAMES and should be considered fair game. Something like "Cloud's Hair" will result in point loss and is NOT acceptable.

    Things that are acceptable are items like "Cloud's Sword", "Cid's Airship", etc.. because these have specific names and are interchangable with "Buster Sword" and "Highwind" respectively. If you pick one, either guess is correct.

3. USE COMMON SENSE
    If you think people are going to riot about your choice, then don't do it.
3. PM ME YOUR OBJECT
    Once you have chosen an object you must PM me so that I can OK it. Because I will know everyone's objects I will be able to help answer questions.

Answering Questions

1. CONSULT THE DICTIONARY
    I've added a list of terms to the first page. If someone asks "Is it TERM" the only possible answers are YES or NO. Don't explain your answer or try to throw people off. Just Yes or No, I've defined each term completely so there should be no gray area.

2. DON'T STRETCH MEANING
    If someone asks "Is it in all 3D Final Fantasies", and you object is "Cid" don't say NO because Cid isn't in Dissidia. Or, likewise, if someone asks "Is it in Dissidia" don't says YES because Cid is a player icon.

    Same goes for anything else. Use the definition of the term as it applies to Final Fantasy. I'll try to add things to the dictionary as we move along, but again, use common sense.

3. EXPLAINING ANSWERS
    If a question does not apply to your object answer NO and say that the question does not apply. If yo're object is "One Winged Angel" and someone asks "Is it bigger than a watermelon?" You answer should look like this: "Bigger than watermelon? No. Does not apply".

    If you don't know the answer to a question, make this your reply: Is it specific to a stage? YES/NO, but I'm not sure, I think its YES/NO and then add an extra question to the list.

4. DO NOT CHANGE ANSWER
    When answering question, be ABSOLUTELY sure that you are answering correctly. If you change your answer later, via an edit, you FORFEIT your turn and LOSE 1000GP. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

5. UNDERSTAND QUESTIONS
    If you answer a question wrong, you will lose 1000GP. If you are unsure of what a question is asking, clarify this BEFORE answering the question. If you can't answer a question don't. Talk it out in the thread.

    Any confusion will be blamed on the person answering the questions. If things get confusing, clear it up, or you lose points.

6. PUT PERSON'S NAME NEXT TO YES or NO QUESTIONS
    This is for my sake with keeping track of AP.

7. DO NOT ASSUME A PARTICULAR GAME
    Unless someone specifies a Final Fantasy title, assume they are asking about all of them. For exmaple, if your object is the "Ragnarok" and someone asks "Is it a Summon" the answer is "Yes" because it was a summon in Final Fantasy VI. If they ask "Is it a summon in Final Fantasy VII," then answer "NO".
----------

Asking Questions
    No "List Questions"! You can't be like:

    quote idiot
    Is it any of the following: Sephiroth, Odin, Balamb Garden, a member of ShinRa, or a physical thing?
    A bit exaggerated, but you get my point.

BK Interventions

Since I know the objects I'm really going to be able to control the game and keep pointless arguements from happening. I will be CLOSELY monitoring questions asked and the way that they are answered. I'll overrule answers if they're misleading or ask guessers to be more specific if their question doesn't really apply to the objects.

Job and Skill Explanation

The fun part of 20 Questions Dissidia, is using AP to learn skills and Master jobs. The system should be pretty self explanatory, but I'll break it down anyway.

Getting AP
    Explained in the First Post

Using AP
    Whenever you gain AP, it will be added to your total. You can use AP by PMing me or posting in this thread and telling me how you would like to allocate points. You can only use AP on your current Job.

Changing Jobs
    Again, PM me or post in this thread and I will change your Job at the beginning of the next round. You can only change to jobs you have unlocked.

Unlocking Jobs
    Everyone starts with Warrior, Black Mage, White Mage, and Thief unlocked. To unlock new classes you must MASTER these basic classes. Your current job class will be bolded in the scoreboard.

Inherent Skills
    To learn inherent skills you must put AP into a Job Class. You will learn skills in the order they are listed. Similar skills do not stack (except in the case of the Onion Knight's skills). The skills you learn in a particular Job Class can only be used while you are that Job Class.

MASTERed Skills
    When you MASTER a job it will be listed on the scoreboard. You will also learn the indicated skill. MASTERed skills can be used while you are a different Job Class. However, you may only have one MASTERed skill on at once (except in the case of the Onion Knight). Your current current MASTERed skill will be bolded in the scoreboard.

Thief Notes
    The Thief's stealing abilities can only be used on people trying to guess the object. You cannot invoke steal on the person who chooses the object
Warrior Notes
    In order to activate the Warrior's question adding skills two 'yes' questions must be asked in a row and the person asking the second question must be the one with the skill. Meaning that someone w/o the skill can get a 'yes' answer and then as long as the next person asks a 'yes' question and has the appropriate skill, the skill will be activated. The same person does not need to get two 'yes's in a row and likewise, the skill is not activated if just any two people get 'yes's in a row. Finally, the skill can be "chained" -- meaning if there are three 'yes's in a row then the skill would be activated twice. You do not need to get another 2 'yes's in a row.

    The AP multiplier skill works differently. This skill is based only on the person with the skill. As long as they keep getting 'yes's the multiplier is active. Other people can ask questions in-between and their answers will not affect the Warrior's multiplier in any way.
Examples ("Warrior" has the Warrior Skills and "Mage" does not):

1. Is it in FFIV? Yes {Warrior}
2. Is it in FFV? Yes {Mage}

In this case nothing would happen.

1. Is it in FFIV? Yes {Mage}
2. Is it in FFV? Yes {Warrior}

In this case, the Warrior's addition skill would be activated and questions would be added to the list.

1. Is it in FFIV? Yes {Mage}
2. Is it in FFV? Yes {Warrior}
3. Is it a weapon? Yes {Warrior}

The warrior's addition skill would be activated twice, once for 1-2 in a row and again from 2-3 in a row.

1. Is it in FFIV? Yes {Mage}
2. Is it in FFV? Yes {Warrior}

3. Is it a shield? No {Mage}
4. Is it a sword? Yes {Warrior}

Addition skill would be activated once for 1-2 in a row. And then multiplier would be activated for 2,4 both being yes's.

Hoepe all this makes sense. If not, just ask.

    The word "sword" implies that the object is classified as a sword in at least one Final Fantasy game. This means that if it is classified as Katana or Knife then it is not a Sword. The one exception to this is Broadswords. Since Broad Swords are only in Dissidia, something that is a broadsword is also a sword. ie. the Hardedge is a sword and/or a broadsword.
2. Character
    A character is either a playable member of your party or an NPC that appears on the world map. Exceptions to this are things that are also Summons, Enemies, or Weapons. This means that though you can speak to Leviathan in FFIV, it is still a Summon.
3. Limit
    The term "limit" refers to all the final attacks through the Final Fantasy series. FFVI's random limit breaks, FFVII and FFVIII's Limit Breaks, FFIX's Trances, FFX's Overdrives, and Dissidia's EX Bursts. If you want to specify one of these particularly please reference the proper term and say that you are being specific.
4. Item
    Anything that appears in the Item list of any game that cannot otherwise be classified as a Weapon, Armor, Accessory, Magic, Summon, etc... in the same game. Shurikens and other throwable/non-equippable items are considered Items. Key Items are also types of Items
5. Physical
    A good rule for "physical" is that you can see it and touch it. The only things that aren't physical are ideas, songs, etc... Things that are physical include: the Buster Sword, Firaga, Super Nova. Things that aren't physical include: FFIV's Theme Song, Dissidia: Final Fantasy, the "Fight" command.
6. Action
    An action is anything exclusive to menus during a fight. Actions include: Item, Black Magic, Run, Summon, Throw etc... Things that aren't actions are: Potion, Blizzard, Bahamut, Excalibur.

The object was "Dancing Mad". I picked the song (from FFVI), forgetting that it is also one of Kefka's weapons in Dissidia. That one ended up being tricky (for me too)

I'll quietly pick another object now...

re: [Game] 20 Questions Dissidia - Round 3 "Choose a Side - What Will You Fight For?"

Before we go ahead with the next turn I'd like to do a couple things.

1. Updated the dictionary, so take a look at that. (please pay particular attention to "Action" and "Physical"
2. I want some feedback on the game so we can make it more enjoyable. Just let me know if you have any ideas/complaints/compliments.
3. I wanna do some kind of fun thread opening ritual to bolster people's AP count. Ideas?

Skills that reduce the number of questions can be gotten more quickly than skills that actively add questions to the list.

I think the descriptions of skills that add more questions to the list when one correctly guesses an object should be re-written to simply state that. They already have "Essentailly an extra X AP" there to explain, so the first part is unnecessary and possibly confusing to someone who doesn't see the differences between this and the skills that actively increase the number of questions.

You name a category of object and everyone lists as many objects that fall into that category as possible. Players receive bonus AP for each object they mention that someone else hasn't said before them. The amount of AP earned per object would depend on how broad the category is (more broad = less AP per object).

Optionally, limit each Player to one post per bonus round so they have to deposit their list all at once - "Do I spend more time thinking/searching for more objects and risk someone else posting before me?"

This would also serve to potentially uncover some "Wait, is X object really in Y category?" scenarios to help better define terms.

EDIT: Suggestions for new classes. I feel like a ponce for even bringing the idea up.

I vaguely remember BK saying (maybe in a PM) that locations and characters do count as physical objects. I don't necessarily agree with this. My thought process is this: while you can touch buildings and streets, you can't touch Nibelheim. And it's my own opinion that living things don't count as objects since they fit into their own category. I think using the term to include locations and characters makes it hard to differentiate among all these completely different things.

I think this is a good idea (and a fun one). The only problem that I have (and I've seen it so far in the game) is that someone like me whose played every FF has somewhat of an advantage over someone else who maybe has only played one or two games. I don't have any ideas on how to fix this (cause I'm dumb), but I wonder if there's a way to balance this out.

I think the current definition is a perfectly effective way of narrowing it down. From physical object, you go to living thing or not, and from not physcial object, you go to asking action, song, gameplay element, etc. There's already a lot sub-categories of things that aren't physical objects; it's large enough as is.

Well, I seem to be keeping up just fine, despite having only played four games and finished zero. Just putting that out there.

I've played every game except for V and IX, but I have no clue how well I'm doing in understanding everything.

lol. Fair enough.

And GlancingReverse, it took me a while to understand all the ins and outs of the classes too. (Assuming, of course, that I fully understand it now.)

re: [Game] 20 Questions Dissidia - Round 3 "Choose a Side - What Will You Fight For?"

I actually really like the Archer stuff VS. I'll play around with it and see what I get. EDIT -- What you have is actually pretty good. The only thing is that if it's a base job, then that's a whole lot of work for me. I'll combine all the ideas you had and make it a mixed job. Tomorrow though, now its time for bed.

As for physical, we'll stick with the one I wrote. If you do anything else you get into a lot of grey area - so, yes, locations are physical. They're not intangible.

As far as lying goes -- we'll see if its too overpowered or not.

As for the little game, the only problem is that whoever posts first gets the most AP.

I think for now, I'll pick what I think is a difficult object and give etxra AP. We'll make something better later, but for now let's just do this.

Ok 3 notes:

1. After my question round, I've got a great idea. It was in the Dyntasty Warriors game and I think it can be adapted for this game. I'll reveal details later. It's basically "Dueling"

2. After the first duel BBG, it'll be your turn again. Don't worry, I didn't forget.

3. I added new archer jobs (thanks to VS) in the Warrior's path along with new mixed jobs. Also, the original warrior abilities have been tweaked a bit.

1. Living thing? No {BBG}
