Monday - Winter 4th - 9 a.m.The dragon has smelled me. Smoke is coming out of its nostrils and its breath smells horrible. Its big ruby-colored eyes are looking around the area. Looking for me.
It's spotted me! Its eyes flash and its forked tongue licks its lips and its sharp teeth. I start to cry and I hide behind a rock, which the dragon picks up and smashes with its claws.
It opens its mouth, and it says, "Are you the one who was imprisoned by the vampires - Maximilian Keaton?"
Dragons can talk? I thought all they did was breathe fire, fly around, and act all scary! I don't want to make the dragon angry, so I just nod, still too scared to talk. I don't even complain that it called me Maximilian.
The dragon speaks again, pleased that I heard it and answered. "The vampires have taken over this mountain range, setting up their base of operations here and using their armies to subdue any race living here who might rise up against them. Their control is near-complete."
"However, unlike the cowardly imps and goblins who shy away in their caves and never come out into the light of day, we dragons intend to free ourselves from their oppression. We certainly have the numbers and the strength to do so, but the vampires have technology the likes of which we have never even dreamed of. Any dragon nearing the vampires' base is instantly exterminated by their weaponry and their hide collected by the vampires to add to their wealth."
"That, Maximilian, is where you come in. A scout of ours witnessed the scene on the lake, and I had assumed simply that you would become another unfortunate victim of those tyrants when he reported back to me. However, just now, I noticed you wandering the mountains. You matched the physical description given to me by my scout, so I touched down to interrogate you and - here we are now. I do apologize if I frightened you, but I couldn't take the chance that any vampires were around. They may be a force to be reckoned with while hiding away in their base, but on the rare occasion that they're out and about on their own, they are as scared little rabbits before our race's might."
So now the dragons are good guys? I thought they went around stealing princesses from knights and being all evil and stuff! "So... how can I help you?" The dragon's eyes flash again. Why does that scare me so much? "You have escaped their base, despite all the technology and security they possess. You must have spent several hours in the base - surely your knowledge of the base will be sufficient to help us dragons organize our plan. Just to let you know, most dragons are invisible to your race's untrained eye. Spending enough time training your eye among dragons should solve that problem."
"Before I get too bogged down in that, allow me to introduce myself to you. I am Dragon Alpha, the golden leader of all dragons. I once ruled over the whole of these mountains, though the vampires' arrival has reduced my power to just the dragons." Dragon Alpha lies down and positions itself so that I can climb onto its back. I quickly climb its scales and sit just behind its bright golden wings. "I will take you to our lands at the snowy peaks of the mountains. There, you will help us devise a plan of attack against the vampires and reclaim our lands!"
Alpha takes off, beating its giant wings and flying fast to the mountaintops. I hold on tight, wondering what's waiting for me in the snowy land of the dragons.
