Forum Rules & Categorized Thread Index

Log in to remove this sponsored message From the beginning of joining this forum we have noticed a few kinks that need to be worked out. We are a community in the Paranormal Forum and this should be a place where curious and interested members can come to share their experiences and their admiration for any paranormal topic. The forum is absolutely overdue for a basic rules thread. Past members have left this forum due to the criticisms of others. Criticism should not have ever come this far. For newcomers and those old this set of rules should help to create a more understanding forum and further bring us together as a community. What are the rules to be followed?
1. Respect Others Respect what others might share in the forum. Nobody here is any more important than the other. We are a community and our number one rule is to respect others. Treat others like you would want to be treated. Give respect and you will gain respect. Respect does not include swearing at and flaming others, hateful arguments, and putting others down about what they choose to discuss. Punishment for Disrespect? If you choose not to respect others in the forum and we get complaints from members about the way you are treating someone then we will give you one warning. A warning will also be given out if I see disrespect in any thread, no matter the circumstances. The warning will include an apology to those members you know you have disrespected and then we will need to see a change in your actions around the forum, such as beginning to be respectful to others. If disrespect continues, a ban may have to be placed. 2. Do Not Critique There have been many issues in the past that deal with criticizing what others choose to share. If you choose to criticize someones experiences or his/her beliefs this will not be tolerated. Members should feel at home when they come to this forum and should not be afraid of what others may say about their own individual experience or their own interest in a particular paranormal topic. Keep an open mind about what others share. You do not have to accept their beliefs but you do not have the right to put them down or criticize them. This forum is a place for members to share their interest in the paranormal amongst others and will not be a place where they are going to be criticized. How Criticisms are dealt with? For those who critique what others share there will be three warnings before a ban. The type of critique that will end you with a warning are those types that would hurt someone else and their beliefs so follow rule number one and respect them. If we receive several complaints about you criticising other members we will have to automatically give you a warning. If criticisms comes so far as to cause a fight or an argument within a thread than this will count as an immediate two warnings to the three you can receive. A critique that can end in an automatic ban would be one where we have another member letting me know that they are being harassed over PM, or in a particular thread, by you, the criticizer. 3. Do Not Spam What is spam? Spam is anything that is off-topic to the specific thread a member is discussing in. Yes there may be some off-topic discussions in a thread or two but as long as some part of the thread topic still remains in their posts, this is not considered spam but a simply conversation amongst members that is branching out from the topic at hand. When this type of off-topic discussion occurs, those members should go right ahead and create a new thread perfect for what they are wanting to discuss. How is spam dealt with? Members who spam will be given two warnings and then after this they may be banned, but this type of spam would have to be something completely off-topic in a thread that has nothing to contribute to the discussion. An automatic ban for Spamming in the forum would be in the situation of creating a number of different threads completely random to the Paranormal Forum, so do not ever do this. Spam of this kind is rare in the forum so it may actually never have to be dealt with. 4. Do Not Memberate What is Memberating? To memberate would be to boss other members around and tell them what and what they can't do. These type of members try to act like the moderator of the forum and they are often seen telling others why their posts are wrong and against the rules, such things that are up to the moderator to decide, not the member. Keep in mind though, we do not consider memberating as a member helping another with advice or the members questions that they may ask in the forum. Members who simply show that they want to help others to stay out of trouble and prevent them from breaking one of the rules is not considered memberating. But a tip for these members who just want to help you cannot boss others around or tell them what they can or can't do in a way that the moderator would handle the situation or that would be considered memberating. Further details on examples of memberating can be found here. What will happen if you memberate? If we catch someone memberating they will be warned three times. One warning for memberating is given out to those who commit the act once in a thread. Two warnings are given out at once if someone is found to be memberating throughout a whole thread. Three warnings are given out at once if someone is not only found memberating throughout a whole thread but also hurting the feelings of others. An automatic ban for memberating would consist of memberating in multiply threads and hurting others by bossing them around. 5. Posting New Threads Make sure if you decide to post a new thread to look through the first two pages of the forum to see if there are any threads related to the one you are making. If there are please use that thread to continue discussion. If you do not find any threads within the first 2 pages related to the one you want to create you may go ahead and create the thread. Threads that are further back in the pages of the forum that may have the same topic as the thread you create do not need to be revived. Just go ahead and create a fresh thread for the topic. These rules are the majority of what sort of acts need to be cleaned up around the forum. We would suggest if you are new or even old to the forum that you read through these three rules just to make sure you are not going to disobey them. We are always available to be asked any question thought of, do not be afraid to: Mod Edit: May 08, 11 by TripleDX | |
