Although I don't currently play on my PS3 at the moment, I am posting simply to mention what a pity it is that there are so many others that don't play Call of Duty 4 anymore.
I'm aware of the many "COD4 was the best" threads.
I've played every Call of Duty since COD4, and even though each release came with new innovative ideas and features, I just can't seem to compare any other to how COD4 played.
I can't put my finger on exactly what it was that made Call of Duty 4 feel different.
There of course are a lot of factors and reasons that people will argue as to why the later games in the series could not compare.
Many would agree that it was the implementation of selectable killstreaks in MW2, or the continuous complaints about over powered guns which led the developers to significantly balance each gun to the point where one of the few, if not only differences between a weapon was purely cosmetic, like in the first Black Ops.
Some would argue that it was the first of it's kind, and therefore like many other games, or even movies, the follow ups are never usually as good as the original.
In my opinion one of the major factors which made it different was the community, this was of course until the hackers got a hold of the game.
As players we were not given a large variety of customizable options, compared to the later COD games anyway.
We were given a few, but well balanced weapons with an attachment or two, and a selection of perks which didn't play a large part as most players ran the same set up as each other, using the likes of Juggernaut, Stopping Power and Steady Aim.
For me it was the 'Pick up and go' feel it had to it, most of us usually grabbed an MP5 or an AK-47, perhaps an M40A5 and made sure that our team won, killstreaks were simply a plus to the team, not an individual target like it is now.
As I said there are many factors which make up the real reason as to why no matter how innovative or upgraded a new COD game is released now, it just doesn't have that old feel to it, and I don't think there will be another Call of Duty game that will perhaps bring us all that same feeling Call of Duty 4 did.
Mark, I know this does not answer your question, I am a long time reader on Neoseeker and now a first time poster, and wanted to start out with a point.
Agreed. I think it is also because COD4 was the first in the Call of Duty series to come out on the Ps3 and have online playability. It was a novelty.
