re: [feedback] Top _____ Lists |

Yes twisted, I also hate comparison videos of the same game on the PS3 and 360, but that doesn't make it any less viable as a top news article. As DA stated no one is forcing you to comment, rate, or whatever on those articles. If its apart of games, its news, and its a viable candidate for top news listings.

re: [feedback] Top _____ Lists |
quote KrunalYa, I'm aware Kru; which is why I said 'getting points' as opposed to 'getting rates'. Clicking the outbound link, commenting, and a bunch of other factors also contribute to the article's points. But if people weren't interested, they wouldn't click the link. If they weren't inclined enough to discuss or debate the list - they wouldn't reply. If you don't like top lists- then your best bet is to just silently let them die yourself - don't complain about them in the comments- that just causes them to get rated higher and eventually perhaps put into the 'Top News'. Krunal, you might be trying to start a revolution - but I like to think of myself as progressive too - just in the other direction. Implementation of a 'Frag' or 'Bury' option would allow users to silently express their discontent towards these articles and try to prevent them from coming to light. If a good majority of the userbase truly doesn't like it - then this would work perfectly - but if this is a 2% rule, then levying a decision to limit, censor, and restrict these types of articles would please some, but harm most. Edit: I hate quoting Krunal... Always seem to drop a size tag somewhere in the mix... and its even worse when he was quoting me to begin with... Maybe lists should be in a separate category and not gain as many points as regular articles. I think this would be the best way to determine who posts lists for the enjoyment of the list rather than those who just post them because it's something easy to get points over.

re: [feedback] Top _____ Lists |

I don't think the issue is as much people pissed that people are whoring Top Lists for points as much as it is that they are just tired of seeing them. (I could be wrong though)
If it in fact is the latter (which given the negative statements, I believe it is moreso), then implementing a bury/frag feature, or perhaps a filter for those people would probably be the best 2 proposed solutions. (And I don't just say that because I thought of them - I try to be non-partisan in my points - I don't benefit much from having Top Lists there - I just progressively think forward for the good of the site -------------------

Maybe only 1/5 top lists really makes it and to be honest they're usually appealing in one way or another.
Other top lists are just posted for the discussion value and merely make their basic points. I still think the select few should just ignore the articles, I ignore what doesn't interest me it's really not that hard. ♥ ------------------- Gone Fission: Blog Centaurus-A | Decrepit Birth | Gorod | Necrophagist | Nile | Psycroptic | Revocation

I am looking into writing a greasemonkey filter to possibly alleviate this issue.
Hopefully I can throw something together this weekend. -------------------

re: [feedback] Top _____ Lists |
quote Big WillieSame thing can be said about anything posted on gamegrep, no? I mean seriously anything with a console war article gets massive points and ratings more so then top ten lists. I would say if you're going to do something like that, the console war article should be more suited for you're suggestion rather then this. As I said before, if you do not like the article, DO NOT POST, rate it, or view it. That solves it. If it still gets on the top ten even after that, then surely it must be attracting some discussion value worth to be on the list. You're not being forced to comment, rate, or click on any article, its there for anyone who CHOOSES to. I don't rate alot of articles, in fact its probably 40 all time atm. And I rate the ones I personally enjoy alot. Take a tip from that and follow it. ------------------- Welcome to Crisis Core forum Welcome to Bad Company 2 God of War 3 official forum community

re: [feedback] Top _____ Lists |
quote Final BladeOhoho, I laughed at your entire post but this took the cake. Trying to classify lists as the same sort of quality news as anything else is simply foolish. They shouldn't be considered "top stories" unless the community really does like them a lot because they really aren't noteworthy for the most part, if at all. -------------------

I dunno about anyone else, but I don't mind "Top ___ Lists"... even the silly ones. They break up the serious news stories and offer a bit of fun. And I enjoy writing why I agree with them, and I enjoy writing why I disagree with them.
That's just my opinion though. I personally don't think that "Top Lists" are overtaking Gamegrep (or the Top News bar) to the point where something needs to be done about them. Every now and then we might get a handful in 1-2 days. But generally, there are only a few every week. -------------------

re: [feedback] Top _____ Lists |
quote MoonriseIm sure I don't need to remind you how articles gets placed in the top ten listings, so surely It being on that list pretty much shows that majority of the members like it enough to place it in the listings. As I said, if you don't like it, don't post, rate or view the article. No one is forcing you to do any of that, and making any changes within the system at the current time is stupid.
