re: Removing "Thumbs down" from comments

Look at it this way. This system could be a whole lot worse. You think being a fanboy is bad on GG? Try Digg.

You can post a well thought out and educated response to any article- however if you disagree with the collective will and mindset of the userbase; prepare to be buried. I have had comments that were quotations, figures, and statistics from governmental or NGO websites and have been buried to over -30. Its just stuff that happens.

The threshold has been up'd to 10 hasn't it?

If it really becomes bad - then perhaps it would have to be up'd again some more.

Another thing to bring up is - I don't think people actually use the thumbing system as much as we think. The majority of posts that have any thumb attention at all are negative ones. Seldom do I see members posts actually rewarded with positive thumbs, aside from the occasional well respected member.

Orly? Anyway Deathsythe it has been uped to 10, but that besides the point.

re: Removing "Thumbs down" from comments

That's what you get for speaking your mind. Even if it's just idiotic, annoying, argumentative, controversial, etc. If you choose to speak and express on your own boundaries, negative responses are likely to happen. If you can't handle it, then well...shut up. It's really common sense.

There's no place where you can speak your mind and expect to avoid the negative among responses. Quite frankly I think thumbing down is better than members going in and calling you a *bleep* for some of the posts you make.

Lol, Final Blade ended up proving my point when he tried to defend himself.

Again, I see no need for removing the "negative thumbs", but not allowing us to see comments below the threshold should be changed.

No one likes getting thumbs down, so it pushes people to improve their comments and creates a better community in general I think.
That's the problem. You can type the most well thought out comment that has no negativity in anyway and still have it get thumbed down a few times.

quote Armed Rebel f
He has such a history of idiotic, stupid and blatantly annoying comments, that his comments are, consciously or otherwise, under a finer microscope.

Well that just means people are childish and need to grow up.Now I've had people on Neo REALLY piss me off with an abusive post. Now I might abuse them back (which I admit is childish in itself) and hate them at that moment. But After less than a day I can completely forget the fact that they pissed me off and continue on like they never pissed me off in the first place.Continuing a vendetta because someone pissed you off is pathetic and childish.

re: Removing "Thumbs down" from comments

To modify my point I made earlier. I just really don't see many comments getting thumb'd up.

Moreso down... The thumbing system seems to be used moreso to "punish" posters than reward good ones.

Um, hi.

Why is this one little detail being overlooked?

quote
Troublesome comments would be handled through a report feature that has no affect upon the comment itself until a moderator has seen to it.
Xenctuary mentions the most sensible solution to the problem and nobody touched on it at all.

Oh, and here's your abuse: http://www.gamegrep.com/news/11483-konami_sues_harmonix_over_rock_band/

I make a reply saying how Harmonix is the only outside company to have touched Konami's rhythm game series and I'm knocked down for it.

The Thumbs Down feature is broken and abused. Don't remove it. Murder it.

re: Removing "Thumbs down" from comments

See, my question is "why the hell are you bothered by that in the first place?".

The "thumbs down" system really does go a short way to prevent the most obvious abuse in the forums; flaming. Really, it's an easy way for people to let someone know they disagree (or (s)he looks like an idiot) without having to flame the living hell of out them like what happens so often in the forums.

Because apparently some douchebag thinks he's getting away with it when it's clear that stupid actions like these are going by unmoderated. It's also hurting one's reputation for unfair reasons when you're getting boo'd at for posting a FACT.

So the general reason as to why to remove is: blame many for the acts of a few...

Nice.

With Absolute's comment in mind - Xenc, is there a way for you to tell who exactly has thumbed down specific comments.

I think a more detailed breakdown of the situation would help all of us to understand what is going on better, maybe shed some light on these thumbing statistics.

You had ONE negative thumb.........is it really that big of a deal to find that someone didn't agree and decided to thumb you down.

Just let it roll off your back, I'm sure it wasn't personal.

I think we should refrain from discussing this whole situation until further data surfaces (if possible).

re: Removing "Thumbs down" from comments

Another idea could be that you can't thumb people up or down unless you participate in that article's discussion.....that would eliminate random people thumbing down others.

Edit: spelling
