I was just going to post this is Deis query thread but I feel it needs its own thread.

Basically my suggestion is to give 'thumbs up' a purpose. Surely if making a comment go -5 thumbs leads it to be deleted then going 5 thumbs up should give it some benefits. Maybe the poster gets an extra point, or the comment gets highlighted in some way to make it more noticeable. But something needs to be done.

I'm in full support of this being implemented. Having the comment background color change to make it more noticeable due to it's higher rating would make it more easily noticeable for the reader and give the poster of the comment more recognition. Obviously, we don't want it to stand out to the point where it totally distracts from other comments but a slight change in tint shouldn't be that bad.

Umm, I think maybe what's best would be to have a system where the highest rated comments get put at the top. Responses to those comments would obviously have to follow, but the ones with 3+ thumbs down wouldn't show up, as it is now. I think youtube does the same thing and it's relatively efficient.

Many people believe there is a thumbs down crew on Gamegrep, and to be honest im sick of people doing it. One they don't even respond when they do, two its just puts people off GG.

Or I would rather see Thumbs up and report only. Take away Thumbs down, cause its putting me off Gamegrep, a regular and contributor every time i either see a comment i Made which is me agreeing too a good point, or others is just showing immaturity.

Also wouldn't this just encourage abusing, for instance someone thumbing up a person cause they're friends and believe they need thumbing up, rather than the integrity of the post itself?

I agree with Silver Mirror. Highest rated comments should NOT be brought up or anything.
But maybe the poster could be given an extra point or something?
But then again, that could encourage people to spam, hoping to make witty comments and get thumbed up.

There's ways where this can be abused.

Euphoric: Seems a good idea to me, an extra point for every comment that gains so many thumbs up can do no harm and only encourage people to be more serious.

Final Blade: Maybe you start acting from more of a neutral point of view and not giving views from one perspective, which leads to your constant thumbs down. The current system works fine people don't seem to abuse it at all; it has never been a problem in my eyes.

Akira: There's ways which the current system could be abused, and for most features for that matter.

All-in-all, there's no proper disadvantages to this. If there's a group of people targeting certain users, then I imagine there is - or could be - a system where you can see who rated what.

I also agree with Final here. The thumbing feature is abused badly and no one can deny it. But also, we cannot prove that anyone is abusing it, because we don't know how that person thinks. He might have had a valid reason to thumb the comment down.

So, I agree to giving a point for a number of + thumbs, but I suggest leaving the - thumbs as they are. (No need of point decreasing or something. That would cause chaos.)
