I recently finished the first book, and I experienced a horrible lag during the battle against Odette, the game suffered from lag before in other battles when many enemies appeared on screen at the same time, but this boss fight was ridiculous, the game was wasn't playable at all
Was the boss supposed to be that way? The button I press didn't register until, at least, 3 or 4 seconds later...

And is there more bosses like this one further in the game?

Not as much. I find the Netherworld to be the worst. But that being said, you still have to visit the Netherworld in other stories, and it's still just as bad.

I see, I recently defeated Odette once again but with the Cornelious and it was the exact same thing.

It's a shame that this game suffers from such an annoying flaw.

The game lags when there are a lot of enemies in the screen. The problem with Odette battles is that she's a big enemy AND she summons those little minions of hers. A lot of them.

I just killed her for the fourth and last time (if I'm not wrong) and I hope I won't face any other boss like her in the last part of the game, because that boss fight isn't playable.
Developers shouldn't release games which suffer this much of lag without fixing them properly.

It seems that Vanillaware fixed that problem with GrimGrimoire. I probably had around 100+ units - both mine and enemies' - on screen today while playing GrimGrimoire and there was no lag whatsoever, lol.

That's nice to hear, but still they should have done that with Odin Sphere first instead...

The lag does sort of help in allowing you to anticipate her attacks better. For example, you can see her attempt the spider attack/regeneration move much sooner than expected.

Ok, I did Odette a few minutes ago and I am happy I am reading this because I was worried my Ps2 had a serious processing problem, the laser has been failing me recently, the machine is due some replacement pretty soon, but not now .

Guess it has to do whith how detailed the underworld is but mostly, all the animations of the enemies in there, wanna know when it reaches its worst part? When the banshee laddies and floor tentacles come out, its HELL!! Well yeh... its the underwold, but it didnt have to feel like that during gameplay experience , oh well, my crappy computer does that all times with most games and I still win anyway, so still loving the game

I doubt that. They certainly had enough budget to hire the top VO actors in the field, didn't they?

Yeh, they actually did, check the cast, all of them appeared on that TV special about voice acting, funny enough, I finished Valkyrie Profile 2 before starting Odin Sphere, mere days before, and the guy who plays Lezard there plays Ingway as well, got to say, that VO actor does a nice part when playing characters that are either evil geniuses or totally mad.

I guess they just didnt test the game enough to realize how bad the battle sequences at the underworld can get, or were not able to fix it... which I doubt but oh well...

Companies do all the VO work at the beginning of development. I guess Atlus just spent to much of their budget and found they needed to save some for promotion.

GK: Because the animation designer made the [Queen of the Dead] so detailed, it ended up becoming too heavy for the console to handle. We tried our best to improve the performance during the limited time we had. However, we regret that the end result wasn't what we had originally hoped for.

Actually it has a lot of background animation, not just snow falling down like Horn Mountain, those guys movinfg around with the candles and all, the way that place was made was quite cool, shame it makes the console go turtle though, but its just one stage out of seven you get to visit with each character yeh..
