David Beckham... Is he over-rated?

In the news, you mostly hear of David Beckham, am I right? Everyone in the media and much of the population hails him as their idol, but, he is only a human being like everyone of us. So he may be a great footballer, but not THE best, plus, there are many other great footballers out there, but why do people hold Beckham in highest regard? I think he is over-rated, but I do think that he is a good footballer.

I don't think he's overrated really, you can't expect a player to perform really well every time.

No matter what people say about Beckham i dont think he's overrated. Yes he aint having the best of times at the minuite but he'll be back. He carries England sometimes and is usually an inspiration. If he was on top form in Euro 2004 id say we would be looking foward to a Semi Final game this week

His amount of effort and performances in Portugal were a disgrace, how much money do you think he was gained from that tournament? And we didn't see an ounce of effort. He's England captain and our supposedly biggest player. I could imagine all the countries laughing at us as he is supposed to be our star.
The first two games Michael Owen didn't put in effort but when nothing worked for him he started really trying and IMO came out of the tournament with a lot of credit for his performances against Croatia and Portugal however Beckham feels his place in the team is garunteed so he sees no reason to try and that is appaling.
In the game against Portugal he backed away from the winger every time, allowing cross after cross into the box and every time we got the ball he got into the place he was least likely to receive the ball. Gary Neville ended up having to do Beckhams job and did it so well we only conceded one goal.
Sadly though Beckhams reputation picks himself for the team every game and unless he does what he remains good at, corners and free kicks, it's going to get more and more embarrasing to see him play.

he grew up playin for MAN U and he'll neva play for one of their rivals.

i dont think he's relli overated, coz he IMO is the best free kick taker and crosser of the MODERN ERA (even tho i havent seen to much of the guys who plyaed in the 70s-90s)

he gets a shitload of cash and u cant relli blame him for siging all those sponsorship deals.
Hes only goin to be playin football for the next 10 years at the most, after taht he wont be getting nearly as much $$$.

Of course he is overrated. England expect him to all the work and if he doesn't pull it off then they blame someone else. Wayne Rooney is another offender of being overrated. He is good no doubt about it, but comparing him to Ronaldo (Brazil not Portugal) is a bit far fetched. David Beckham is almost an exact replica of Giggs except Giggs had more talent.

When Beckham first arrived at Real Madrid he was carrying the team !

The second half of his season was full of injuries and personal problems, I fell so sorry for the Madrid players because they wasted a season last year. They had to use a left back as a centre back all season and there bench was a 33 year old goalkeeper and youngsters.

Beckham is past his best and was never as good as Zidane, maybe an equal to Figo but they are all to old now.
