Would just rather they didn't punish Martinez for it but then I suppose that'd almost be an admission that the referee *bleep*ed up and they can't do that. Can't really publicise punishing the ref for it either.

I think the simplest thing to do in these awkward scenarios is retrospective punishment. They have a Dubious Goals Panel that meet in secret, alledgedly, so why not? I know it's marginally different but it does change something slightly about the game in question.
