Liverpool vs Arsenal - Page 16

Its not hard to be more direct than us atm. Completely the opposite of what I was expecting. I thought the skrtel error last week would put a strong focus on a good solid performance at the back. Contrasting performances for both Arsenal and Liverpool in there last two games would be a good way to conclude. Still unsure on who will make top four, can say its looking less and less like us though.

Anyway despite todays result i honestly think we'll be closer to Arsenal this year, they'll struggle against the weaker teams because they won't be given much space, the way we played today played into Arsenal's hands, took advantage of the space that teams that sit back won't give them. As good as Carozla looks he'll get frustrated against lower-end teams because he doesn't seem to be as patient as someone like Fabregas and seems more shot happy.

We need a striker, maybe go in for somebody like Anelka? Need to cut out the individual mistakes and maybe start to phase Gerrard out of automatic selection. After his Euro's performances i thought he'd carry on but he looks a little lost in Rodgers system. I'd even give Downing a chance ahead of Enrique because he's the worst left back we've had since Christian Ziege.

Why do we not have Morgan, Pacheco or any other youth reserve striker on the bench?

I would rather move Skrtel forward.

Have a feeling we're going to finally see an Owen / Liverpool reunion unfortunately.

I am not too worried personally, Yes it was a poor peformance (from what is said) but we can make up for it next week and we have a good spine to the team. Rodgers is not going to make massive changes overnight.

Can't believe Diaby dominated us, especially after I last saw him and thought he was done. Good for him. Probably helped that Sahin & Allen weigh about 250lbs between them.

Even with 0 forwards I wouldn't re-sign Owen.,

tbf if most other fans had used the ridiculous examples of teams they'd beaten in the past to say who they could beat now they would have been jumped on straight away, he's got a point

Nah most people were intelligent enough to read it for what it was, an example of us being able to perform when not expected to rather than a statement that we can beat anyone because 10 years ago we did.

it still read as a ridiculous statement, other teams have performed when not expected as well, it's not like i thought 'HE'S SAYING THEY'D DEFINITELY BEAT BARCA JDFIJIOE'. even if you didn't mean it that way it came across bad

Will be interesting to see what Wenger does after the break in regards to Koscielny.

He was our best defender last season without a doubt, but should we break up a defence that has just kept three clean-sheets on the bounce? Vermaelen and Koscielny are generally considered to be our best defensive partnership, but Mertesacker has performed admirably and it would be extremely harsh to drop him.

The other option would be that Koscielny goes to right-back, replacing Jenkinson. I would be more for this as Jenkinson's deficiencies are obvious (though I do think he's unfairly made a scapegoat by some fans) - he's clueless in possession and his positioning at times can be horrible. While he played well today up against Stering, I do feel that we sacrificed all our attacking threat down the right by having Chamberlain double-up on Sterling and Jenkinson seemed extremely reluctant to make those bombing runs that I like so much. Koscielny would provide more defensive stability whilst also allowing more attacking freedom for the winger he's playing behind.
