UEFA Euro 2012: Semi Final Portugal vs Spain

The nowadays comparatively friendly Iberian rivalry gears up again for this first Semi Final. The last time these two faced each other was at the 2010 World Cup where a single strike from David Villa separated the two, taking Spain through to the Quarters. A place in the Final is up for grabs now and both teams look capable of seizing that chance.

Manchester United reject Ronaldo will be hoping to book Portugal a place in the final against the nation he plays his club football in. He won't have to do it alone though, with players like Nani, Coentrao, and Moutinho in good form, while Pepe has provided solidity at the back. Portugal's main problem seems to be their striker, Postiga has started every game so far but hasn't looked convincing to say the least, surprising no one.

An unconvincing striker however, is not something that phases Spain in the least, with an average of 0.5 strikers per game. The 4-6-0 formation came back for the Quarter against France, leading to at that point the most boring game of the competition so far. If it's not broken don't fix it would seem to be the motto though, and with a need to reduce the amount of times Ronaldo touches the ball it wouldn't be surprising to see it again.

Somehow I can see Coentrao being a threat against spain. Despite this, I can see Spain going through. Ronaldo will probably go missing again ala. world cup 2010.
