kinda disappointed but i didn't expect much with this squad (thought we'd go out in the group stage tbh - we were dominated by every team tbf lol) and we'd be battered by germany anyway.
gerrard, johnson and lescott were our best players at the tournament for me.

also i've said before with rooney that he isn't the player with england he is with united because of the personel. i saw the same with benzema last night with the french, at their clubs they have fantastic possession ball playing midfielders who provide the ball (the joke with rooney is that these players are *bleep*ing english but that's another argument)* with their national teams they end up playing central midfield. i bet if you compared benzema/rooney's average position at this tournament with how they play for real/united there would be an absolute chasm between the two.

*their time with england is done now but hopefully for the next tournament we will build a midfield around someone like wilshere and run with it. i wouldn't be surprised to see him end up with similar caps to scholes/hoddle etc. though. i think after watching england for a number of years that is just the way it is.

That's okay because you were the fourth best team in the group, so that's what you should expect (from djedwardsmith's POV) - England were expected to win the group, they did, they weren't expected to get to the semi's and they didn't. In between is the QF and that's where we go to. I'd be proud of Ireland, it's not like you're in these tournaments all the time, getting there alone would make me proud.
