I'd say that was more with Hodgson's tactics then the players themselves, both Gerard and Parker were encouraged to sit back and soak up the pressure, then release the ball out wide when the ball was won, no encouragment to keep the ball or even attack.

Gerrard was easily England's best player in the Euro's, dunno how suddenly he's coming in for criticism.

Dont see the point in still playing the generation of failed England players. Give all the new lads a chance. Its no wonder players like Chamberlain are pulling out when hes still back up to Adam Johnson.

it's no surprise to me that in the time i've been watching england the two times off my head i can remember our central midfield dominating a good/even a decent opposition is when carrick was our star man in there. yes they were both friendlies (last night, away in a germany friendly in 2009 featuring a lot of the side that shat on us in the world cup) but if he isn't given the opportunity to play competitive matches then they are the only places he can show what he can do.

carrick will finally get a deserved run in the team now imo, particularly with the focus being on trying to keep the ball better to get closer to the better nations. last night was his first cap since may 2010. people can have their own opinions on his game but even if he was spanish he'd probably have been given more of a chance than that.

came in for a fair bit in the match against italy tbf, made less passes than carroll who came on as a 60 minute sub iirc and pirlo made 3 or 4 times as many. looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights tbh. he'll create/score goals with the right people around him but he's never been a player that's ever looked like dominating a midfield at international level. we've seen that at every tournament for the past decade.

Well no surprises to see Lgig not seeing the worth in Carrick. England would have had a lot more possession with Carrick in the team instead of Parker and just generally smarter on the ball. Carrick is used to playing in big games in Europe and used to being the guy under the radar. Rarely people notice how good at intercepting he is in the holding midfielder role, At the moment is as good as he's ever played tbh.
