Lol neo_newbie. Do you seriously think England could win the Euros with Wellbeck, Sturridge and Carroll?
Rooney is England's only world class striker. It would be stupid to not take him.

Defoe hasn't been playing and Holt is awful.

If we take four strikers, Rooney is one, we need to then look at what the other three can offer.

We need pace (Welbeck), finishing (Bent?), height (Carroll), purely because that's the most simple method that seems to be used when dictating what's needed.

Although Rooney is a stellar talent to have, if you want to build some consistancy, he shouldnt be an automatic choice as soon as he's available.


Also, I love how you all debate whether this guy is better than that guy regards playing for England when you constantly mention people with a few caps and not much of a career behind them already because when the tournament is over and you have inevitably failed to win again you'll just criticise the ones that played and ask why of the players who didnt and from then on Hodgson is in trouble.

You can call people shit all day but if the England team was picked on merit you'd have to take Rooney, Holt, Graham and Sturridge because they are the top scoring Englishmen in the top division in England, back ion the day, that was why you were picked, not because you could play with the player you arent allowed to drop (Rooney in this case) but no matter what, somebody would have to stick their oar in and say "what about Sandles McPig*bleep*er? He's a way better player......"

I'm all for lively debate but you cant compare people fairly for international football when they dont play it because it's not like England just use one clubs system and tell everybody to follow it, you gel the players you are using each time to get the best out of them.

If England were blessed with several world class options all over the park then these issues would be more debateable than they are, but England have less than a handful of world class players at their disposal. In fact, a leper could count the amount of english world class players on one hand.


With a new manager in place with new ideas, unless he's got the job because he follows blindly and takes the pay cheque, he'll pick the team properly, not the team the daily star readers want.



Regardless of the debate, England wouldnt win the Euros if they were allowed to take people from every single country they ever conquered because no matter what they will be over-hyped, they'll under perform, and then be slated across the english media which spends weeks carrying "come on england" slogans all over the place and the second they're out of a tournament, it's not even put forward as a valiant effort.
