We're awful. Have been for a while. Napoli will beat us.
Can't see any English teams getting to the last 8.

Napoli are 7th in the Serie A right now. Although they are behind some top teams, they aren't exactly playing brilliantly. I reckon it will be a very close tie. I wouldn't write Chelsea off. In saying that, I do hope Napoli thrash them! We maybe 5th in the Premiership, but we've been awful this season and I'm quite surprised we're there given some of our performances this season.
If we play like we did against Everton, then Napoli will thrash us. I'm just hoping the 'different competition' and whatnot gets the players motivated, but I can't see it. Nothing seems to be motivating the players right now.
Maybe we need a legend back. We should bring back Zola.

re: UEFA Champions League: Round of 16

Huge game for us tonight. We seem to up our performances for bigger games (Tottenham, Man Utd, Man City, Valencia are some examples) so I reckon we'll see a better performance than we did at the weekend.
We need to line-up similar to the Valencia game in terms of formation and game plan. Napoli are superb on the counter so if we attack too much than they'll tear us apart.
Cech Ivanovic - Cahill - Luiz - Cole Romeu Ramires - Lampard Sturridge - Drogba - Mata
I think it's a risk using Terry, because if he's not fully fit then he could get torn apart by Lavezzi or Cavani. I want to see Romeu return to the line-up in the anchorman position, and just keep him there. We need Drogba tonight. He'll add something to the attack, and carries a huge goal threat. 4 goals in his 3 last CL games, plus he seems to put in good performances in big games.
I don't think we'll win, but if we can keep it down to a goal deficit then we'll have a decent chance.

Torres has had his chance. He got given a 6 week run in the team without any real competition, and still couldn't score a goal. Now he can move over for Drogba.
I do hope Terry does play, but if he's still injured than I don't really want to risk him to be honest. We could do with his leadership though.

Sturridge upfront? I was expecting Drogba, but wouldn't be the worst thing if it's true.

are you even willing to acknowledge the cancers and player power within that dressing room Chelsea Boi?! I know about it, but unfortunately a lot of those 'cancers' are also our better players that we need on the pitch. It's something that does need sorting out in the summer though.
Even if Malouda backs the manager, he's useless. It's almost like playing with 10 men.

Still got that vital away goal. Their defense seems a bit shaky though so hopefully we can get at it more.

who cares? chelsea are going through a transitional period whereby they've gone the previous 5 years without really thinking of the future and settling with the squad they have (which was excellent 3-4 years ago). now when you have a core of 4-5 players who have been at a high level for a long period of time and they start to get on the wrong wide of 30 where certain abilities start to lack, there playing time is limited and they don't like it, add in that a new manager who has methods that obviously don't involve those players in the long term and a battle ensues. so when you have a game like this, where AVB has been under ridiculous pressure in a job i don't think ANY manager would've fared much better in, you make a stand. he's saying im putting my faith in the players who want to get behind the project and if you don't like it gtfo. now terry and co. might well get him the sack, but i rate him massively for going out on a limb and be willing to make this stance. he's not gonna be bullied which is great to see. I care for the sake of this season, because if we don't get Champions League then it rules us out signing some players. I know we haven't properly sorted ourselves for the future in recent years, and I've been (with other Chelsea fans) wanting to see us bring in some younger players. It didn't happen though, but what can I do? Just support who they do bring in even if I don't always agree. I know we're going through a transitional period which is why I don't mind AVB staying because I think he'll take us places and win us trophies. I only said that he may get the sake, because of recent performances .. Not what I want, but from previous managers it's happened. I know it's something that needs sorting come the summer time, and I'm just hoping that we do finally do something about it because it should've happened a few seasons ago.
I will say fair play to him for making a stand and that, but whether players like Malouda stand behind the project or not .. He's exactly one of the players that SHOULD be going in the summer. He's on the wrong side of 30, and doesn't offer us much.
Edit: Ah crap! We need to focus more in the second half, because we can't afford to concede another.

fair point but if it doesn't happen now when will it? until those players are left out/gone it will be a replica of this situation further down the line. malouda probably should be leaving in the summer, but a lot of it comes down to how much control AVB has over comings/goings (i suspect not very much) where ultimately he needs full control and not having some cretin of an owner getting involved. --- chelsea are definitely still in this tie, napoli are vulnerable at the back and given the state of chelsea's defensive performance thus far attacking seems like the best way to go imo. If we don't rebuild this summer, then we're going to have the same problems. I'm hoping that this season has made AVB realise exactly who he needs in the side and who needs to go whilst bringing in younger but good quality players. After last summer, where he brought in Romeu, Courtious and Lukaku (I don't think De Bruyne was his signing though) .. It gives me some hope that he's going to bring in a few more youngsters this summer whilst getting rid of some deadwood and older players.
I think AVB does have some control over the incomes, but the outgoings? No idea. We'll see this summer I guess. If Roman backs him with the funds, but gives him freedom with it too than we could see AVB do something special.
We need to be careful though. Napoli are very dangerous on the counter attack so we need to make to stay focused at the back. It'd be good to see Essien come on at some point.

Better performance this evening than the one against Birmingham, but still nothing brilliant. Our defensive worries strike again .. The 3rd goal should've been dealt with though. Awful from David Luiz. Napoli played well though, and Cavani was superb tonight.
3-1 isn't the best result, but not the worst either. Got an all important away goal, but we need to be careful at the bridge as I fancy them scoring there. If the game is as open as tonight, then we will need to be careful and make sure we take our chances.
Midfield of Lampard, Essien and Ramires next leg please.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Abramovich ruled out spending big again to overhaul the Chelsea squad? May have made that up but if so I think Chelsea are in trouble personally. Don't think they're up to much and Cahill, Mata and Sturridge are the only players good enough to be playing in a couple of years time for them it seems.
Ramires is only 23, and is certainly good enough to play for us for years. Bertrand and McEachran have the potential to make it first team for us too, plus we have Romeu, Courtious, Lukaku and De Bruyne.
Granted they're not all completely ready, but we've got some decent players for the future. We do need to get rid of some players though and replace them. Roman will spend big if he knows it has to be done to win trophies.

Forgot about Ramires tbh and Romeu has looked good when I've watched him. I'd be happy enough if you left your future in the hands (more feet) of the others though.
McEachran is a special talent, and has the potential to make it. Swansea wasn't the best team for him to go on loan to because they have a decent midfield pairing, but I still think he'll make it. I reckon Bertrand is good enough to play for us our first team already to be honest.
Lukaku needs to be loaned out. However, Courtious has been very good for At. Madrid. Haven't seen enough of De Bruyne though, but looked good against us.

Thing is; we could've actually scored a few more goals last night. Napoli were good, but they weren't defensively brilliant. We created chances, but we've lost our ruthlessness and clinical-ness that we had under Ancelotti. Story of our season really.
This is why Sturridge needs to be put into the middle because he's more likely to score the chance than Drogba or Torres these days.

The worrying thing with the second leg at Stamford Bridge is we're going to have to push forward to score which will leave gaps for Napoli, and counter attacking is a strength of theirs.
If we're going to win, we're also going to have to play a striker who can actually score.
Cech Ivanovic - Cahill - Luiz - Cole Romeu Essien - Lampard Ramires - Sturridge - Mata
Personally think that would be a decent line-up to play. You'll have Romeu who can sit and play the anchorman position whilst having the goal threat of Lampard and gives Essien to chance to just dominate the midfield. Ramires played quite well at wing the few times he played there, and he's quick on the counter. Sturridge can also score goals unlike Drogba or Torres, so I'd prefer to see him there.

I reckon Arsenal will win tonight, but the problem is they can't seem to keep clean sheets either. If Milan score once, they've got to score 6 and I can't see that happening. I can also see Milan scoring tonight with Ibra in great form right now.
I'm going to go with the same prediction as DjedwardSmith and say 4-2.
