Liverpool vs Newcastle

The match so good Sky couldn't wait for the weekend to show it.

All eyes will be on former Toon striker Andy Carroll as he is set to start for the Reds in place of the suspended Luis Suarez. Carroll hasn't lived up to the £35m fee that saw him move West from the North East, however with Suarez facing a lengthy ban many will be looking to him to grasp his chance of a run in the first team and show what he can do. A good run of form from the striker is much needed for Liverpool too, with them lacking potency up front having failed to score more than once in the last 6 matches at home. The opposite is the case for Newcastle, with free summer signing Demba Ba having scored 14 goals in his last 13 league starts for Magpies.

Only one point separates the two sides, with Newcastle right behind Liverpool in the league table. The home side have drawn their last 2 games, but will enter the match with the comforting knowledge that the last 3 meetings between these sides at Anfield have resulted in a 3-0 home victory and Newcastle have not won at Anfield in the league since 1994. Newcastle ended a run of 6 matches without victory last weekend though with their victory away to Bolton, and will be hoping to maintain the good form.

Liverpool will be missing the suspended Luis Suarez, while captain Steven Gerrard is expected to start on the bench one more as he makes his return from injury. Newcastle could see Davide Santon return from injury on the bench, while Dan Gosling makes his return from suspension.

Suarez is banned though right?
