His confidence plays a very big part in how he plays, if he has a bad game he might have a few shockers then if he makes a brilliant save he might have a few fine games. That save against Chelsea seems to have got his confidence up again a bit.

That's understandable in his first season, but it does seem to be the trend, media don't help but it's always been like that since Schmeichel left, they jumped on him straight away in the Community Shield and then had a poor game against WBA.

Arsenal was the start of a decent run for him, penalty save and a few decent saves from Arshavin & RVP will have given him some confidence and he went on and had a great game away at Stoke, possibly his best for us and did well at home to Basel, defence let him down that night.

All went reasonably well for him from then until the Blackburn game, then he was dropped, but the Chelsea game seems to have given him confidence again, nothing spectacular since but looks more confident.

As for Evans, possibly been our best CB behind Ferdinand this season, problem with United at the moment we have too many players dipping in and out of form, Valencia was terrible at the end of last season whilst Nani was superb, now it's changing, Young's been on and off, Rooney goes on goal runs and then doesn't score for a while, we need all players firing at the same time.

Carrick's probably been most consistent with his form this season.

EDIT: Suicide Messiah I agree with what you're saying, bulking up isn't a must if he can gain confidence regularly, but I think it would help.

He's a good shot stopper which has been shown on quite a few occasion, but just saying he needs to bulk up is far from it. Yeah, he might have a bigger presence, could be commanding sometimes from his sheer physicality, but his mentality on how he deals with it needs to change. He's been brought up in Spain where aerial battles with the keeper are rare and it's been a shock to his system to see that he has to deal with this stuff. You'll see on corners even before the players get close he'll be shouting at the ref to keep an eye out, and then sometimes he's just too occupied trying to deal with the person on him instead of the ball.

No doubt he'll mature into a top class keeper though, I just don't think all he needs is bulking up, more a mentality change, and I'm sure he'll be helped in being more commanding when he learns English.

I agree completely. He's just a bit eccentric as well. Reminds me to a small extent of Reina in his first year or so at Liverpool and also slightly of Gomez at Spurs.

probably above rio imo. it's good to see him approaching his best again though, with all the smalling/jones playing centre half for united/england evans was the forgotten man really. was always a case of if (probably not even an if, it was a when) he could get his game back on track he'd be starting though so i'm glad fergie kept the faith, no doubt would have gone to sunderland with brown and o'shea and been excellent there (again) if he didn't.

agree with carrick most consistent as well, really took more responsibility in midfield but he really could score more goals like the qpr one if he wanted it enough.

Evans is miles ahead of his abysmal form last season for sure, but to be honest, I'm still pretty wary when I see him in the starting 11.

He's improved aerially and is having some decent performances, but he still looks suspect when through balls are played. It's like he just can't understand the concept of them. That was evident in the Man City drubbing.

I know I'm being a bit harsh to a player that's had a decent season, I just believe that fairly soon he'll be the weakest centre-back of the team. He's been fortunate that Smalling has had to fill in at right-back after the season he had last year, and Jones has had to play the O'Shea role (i.e. EVERYWHERE) when necessary.

Dw about it, they're not the most sensible of posters so take their opinion with a pinch of salt. They'll see De Gea make a few camera saves (which he's got a big reputation for doing iirc) and blame the lack of organisation in the defence on Evans and his weakness from corners on Evans.

I've been watching Twente vs Schalke. Pretty poor game so far tbh, not got much flow and not much created.

Ola John has been a bright spark again though, always impresses me. Also only just found out he's Collins John's brother! Remember him?

Luuk De Jong clips his own heel, outside the box and the ref gives a red card and a pen!

Cracking pen though.
