Is Adam disciplined enough to start next to Lucas as a box to box midfielder? Gerrard doesn't have the discipline to be constricted to such a role imo. Henderson would be a natural choice if he's good enough.

By the way, anyone else notice how shit Spearing's first touch is in that pre-season game?

Really hope this is his last season with us - he has heart but that's about it.

Do agree on depth though. We can put a good second string out in the cups and still concentrate on the league. It's a bastarding shame now we have no EL, cos we could have had a decent team going, with space for the likes of Shelvey, Henderson, God Poulsen, and most likely Coady, Flano, Robbo, Sterling and maybe Wisdom and Morgan as well

I'll remember him for the goal he scored against Arsenal in the Champions League quarters I think it was. Just after Walcott ripped our team apart, Ryan scored a thunderbolt to send us into the semis iirc.

That was a close second.



This makes me sad because Babel could have done this regularly for us if he'd the right attitude.

I think Adam's passing along-side Aquilani would work well. Not sure how we could fit those two together but it would be good to see.

tbh for spurs it might be a different case, but basically given that for most, if not all positions we have 2 players who are capable of playing at the least competently (trying to find a word to describe our strikers aswell, not easy ), and a lot of versatility, players that could not necessarily play numerous positions but more numerous roles within a position, see sandro for example he could play as a true defensive midfielder, a box to box midfielder, as one of a three or (albeit not to the higher standard as the previous mentioned roles) a true centre midfielder

and it means that we don't have a best or a 'first choice' x1, same as i don't think alex ferguson see's a strongest x1 for manchester united, he has players for different types of game e.g. park/anderson, i don't think that an injury free arsenal or chelsea would have a first choice x1

i now see this is the case for liverpool, you have greater quality in depth than previously (not sure if any are planned to go such as aqualini?) and players like charlie adam or jordan henderson could fill several roles across midfield/wide positions, and rather than have your same x1 who walk out together every week, i think kenny will pick the right players for the appropriate games, he has the squad for it now

(didn't purposely bring up spurs in the liverpool thread just an easy comparison for me to make)
