It's not like we were playing against Spain tonight, Whelan and Andrews were shitting themselves at the menace of Hamsik. We might as well give up now with that attitude. Someone just drop deep to pick the ball up so we don't play hoofball. Had enough of that over the years.

D I O S I agree with the defence part as we've got some great defenders and youngsters who will become great players too. Our midfield should be fine with players like Wilshere, McEachran etc. but it's that 'holding midfielder' area which you mentioned. Can't really think of any 'young' holding midfielders around either at the moment so it will be a problem like you said. For upfront, all is fine as we've got Daniel Sturridge!

if carroll can get on it i would be very happy with an attack of young + walcott either side with rooney playing the free role/trequirsta or w/e it's called and carroll as the man up top (but no *bleep*ing mindless hoofing).

i would be happy with wilshere alongside barry but if it's barry + parker we would get done by a germany/spain imo. just keep lampard out and gerrard's return will be interesting. not sure how he fits into the 2 central and rooney has that no. 10 position locked up (or should).
