I know you didn't say that but you didn't really make it clear what your point was, you just seemed to be belittling Spuds tbh.

I'm not understating Liverpool's success over the past decade, but it's come at a cost, surely you can see that? I'm not saying all the success was based off the turmoil off the pitch, but they fed eachother, no doubt about it. Ill-advised moves in the boardroom based on ambitions that were beyond the means of Liverpool at the time, as far as I can tell from the situation. Then again I'm not well versed in all the moves in the Liverpool boardroom, it's just been my impression there were very bad decisions made in trying to push that extra bit further.

Unlike Spurs, who for the most part have made great decisions financially.

I'm not getting into Spurs, at all. But I'd just like to point out that before H & G took over, we did have debt, yes, but it was managable debt. The kind of debt near every club has nowadays. We only started suffering because of the way those two bought the club. Not because we went out spending £20 million a year or what have you. We won the CL, got to another final, then another semi and a quarter in the past 5 years. We were making more than enough money to be able to spend, but the way those two purchased the club caught up with them, they had to refinance loan after loan, which in turn affected the way we operated, and all funds withdrawn. Nothing to do with chasing the dream, just two morons who didn't have a clue.

I understand that Gary, it was more responding to what I thought was Ishy belittling Spuds achievements in terms of management, simply because they haven't been overly successful in the league.

Ishy, course they've had investment, but that still doesn't mean they haven't been managed well or are one of the richest clubs in the country?

I know it might be premature to be tipping them to be going places, but my thinking is why not? No team really stands out these days, and the league is certainly up for grabs. Everyone says "you can't judge in November" or whatever, but when can you judge? They've had a solid enough start to the season with a few blips here and there but are still well within touching distance of 4th, they've done better than many expected in the CL, and like I said they're a stable club with a very good squad and a good manager. I don't like Redknapp but I kind of admire the way he's so brash about what they can achieve there tbh. Too many managers are conservative when talking about club ambitions, Mancini's a case in point, saying Chelsea will win the league after they beat us very comfortably. What's the point in that?

yup we have a wage cap, i think its gone up now to 60-70k i think it is with modric being the highest earner, im sure Dannyido knows more about the ins and outs about the wages than i do

yeah modric signed a new 6 year (4+extra 2) deal in the summer and became our highest paid player ever, the next highest are on £50k-£60kish, Bentley, Woody, Keane, Defoe, King, Crouch are all around that mark or at least as far as i know lol.

Mind you thats all up until van der Vaart signed, he's prob on the same amount as Modric

all the key players have signed longer contracts in the last year and have at least 3 years each, apart from Gomes who's got 18 months to go but will probably get another in the next month or two

also supposedly Redknapps replacement is going to be Tim Sherwood ;/

I never said they weren't well managed though. I just think it's bullshit they have had consistent investment with consistent lack of success.

Yeah I completely see where you're coming from - Spurs are 1-2 big signings away from competing. They have a very good squad, with quite a few players capable of winning games and lots of depth (Bale, Modric, VDV) and lots of good depth. I just don't think they're be able to continue to build on things. They're one of those clubs that keeps threatening to improve but fails to do so.. although they have never had a midfield as good as this. All they need is a quality centre forward really.

He's been really good this season but it could end up being a blessing in disguise. Roy has to give Agger a chance now with the amount of fixtures coming up and it could lead to him staying.

For that to happen he'd have to stay fit for more than five minutes! He's still a couple of weeks away from returning to training, so I don't hold much hope.
