Cracking ball in and great bravery from Song from the grainy pictures I saw.
Did well to keep going.
Still maintain Bendtner is a sack of shit. Too intricate and fancy when he needs to be simple.

Have to say, if Nani handballed it you have to wonder why on Earth Clattenberg didn't award the free kick. Won't even mention the dive as I've not seen it.

It should have been a free kick but the ref never gave it, Gomes just can't award himself a free kick. Hence why Clattenberg needs to come into question. If he didn't wave on advantage for Gomes to just play on, then he should have awarded the foul/booked nani.

To be fair, the main incident which every Spurs fan has right to be annoyed at is Clattenberg missing the dive/handball combo.

Nani comes across as a right *bleep* after that. Didn't realise he'd ran and stood and paused. And then celebrated as wildly as he did. I'd like to see the dive/handball too though.

If Gomes thought it was a freekick why did he put the ball 12 yards ahead of where Nani handled it? Just thought I'd throw that in there. To do what every single player in the history of football has ever done; gain an advantage. quote Wario619
Also, why didn't he take the "free-kick" straight away? Instead he rolled the ball out and stood there like a plonker. So he could take a run up and hoof it long. Have either of you ever played/watched football before?

And since the refereeing error came first, it's that which led to the goal.
Yes, Gomes is at fault after that, but yet again we're talking about a refereeing decision at Old Trafford.

We have struggled to hold on to leads this season, and we had just gone 2-0 of course Nani was happy. The game was pretty much over after Nani's goal went in, so I don't blame him for celebrating in the way he did. Rofl. It's not that he scored to make it 2-0. It's the manner in which he scored. He ran off celebrating as if he'd earnt that goal, of as if he'd scored a decent goal; It was a tap-in in which he took advantage through poor sportsmanship. The part that gets me is the pause. Just makes the whole thing look worse to me, purely opinion though.

quote Man Utd Fan 123
The lino just nodding and saying I Know is useless. He never once put the flag up until about 5 seconds after we scored and Gomes went running over to him, made him look more of a tit than Clattenburg.
Rubbish, the lino clearly thought the free kick was awarded for the obvious handball and he, just as Gomes did (foolishly), assumed that the referee was competent enough to spot the handball and award the free kick. When the linesman realised that Gomes was not awarded a free kick, the then raised his flag to alert Clattenberg to the handball. If Clattenberg did see it, he's flawed hugely for playing advantage and allowing play to continue even though no advantage was gained. If Clattenberg didn't see the handball, not only does he need his eyes testing but he should also have faith in his officials.

And don't even throw out that "he moved the ball forward ten yards from where the handball took place", as countless times when advantage is given a team can dribble forward and lose it for play to be brought back.

An advantage suggests that there was an advantage by not stopping play. .. and that there was in this case. Gomes has the ball in his hands and is running away from where the incident took place, how can that not be an advantage lol? He can launch a counter attack from here with a long throw and plenty of United players are out of position for the counter, he has more opportunity to launch a counter than he would have from a free kick back on his own goal line. Advantage is played at the referee's discretion and just because Gomes messed up doesn't mean the play should be called back if advantage has already been played. It parallels to a striker missing the target then wanting the play called back for a free kick. Advantage had been played by Clattenburg, he told both the linesman and Redknapp this. Aye, so when a referee waves advantage, an advantage is instantly taken because the player moves a yard forward and then loses it. Bollocks is it, time and again play is brought back even though the team given the advantage has moved forward several yards. Yes, advantage was played; but there was none. There's so many inconsistencies from the officials in a short period of time.

And again, by your logic unless when advantage is waved the player immediately loses the ball in that position, play should continue.
Merely moving forward several yards is not sufficient enough to warrant playing on, as shown in any single implementation of the advantage rule I've ever seen.

re: Barclays Premier League: Round 10
|
quote Johnny Boi
But Gomes didn't 'immediately' lose the ball did he? He runs with the ball in his hands and puts it down a long way from where the free kick would've been. Like every single free kick taken then? quoteIf Clattenburg has played advantage it's already gone by the time he puts the ball down, ball is in Gomes' hands he can do what he wants with it, at that point the advantage is surely over and his *bleep* up from not playing to the whistle results in a goal. I don't recall Clattenberg showing any visible sign that he was playing advantage. Nor did he make Gomes aware that he was playing advantage. Nor did he make anyone aware. Again, if by moving a few yards forwards constitutes enough of an advantage to you to not put play back, then we may as well remove the advantage rule as in open play it'll serve no purpose unless the player loses the ball almost instantly. As using your logic, moving the ball forward a few yards is sufficient enough an advantage, even though that goes against ever working example and implication of the rule I've seen. quoteHe's travelled a considerable distance with the ball here it's not as if he's put the ball down where the incident was, he's gone a full 10 yards with it and like 15 seconds have elapsed. That's not an advantage, especially as he's unaware he was being given the opportunity to take one. How many times has a player gone forward several yards with the ball, only to be tackled and have play brought back? Happens all the time. Only difference this time is that because you benefited, you're attempting to justify it. quoteMuch ado about nothing imo, again a clear goal denied for Tuncay at Everton, a goal that could have actually changed the game there, and yet everyone wants to talk about United. Because it's an absolutely farcical chain of events?

If it was bloody Ricardo Fuller or someone who scored and celebrated like that after that kind of goal I guess half the people who care now, wouldn't.
Don't be such an idiot, do you genuinely think scoring a tap-in in such a controversial fashion warrants running around like a goon celebrating as if you'd just belted in your hat trick from 30 yards? If it was Drogba. He'd be slated. If it was Torres. He'd be slated. If it was Arshavin. He'd have just walked off with a smile on his face, almost looking embarrassed.

Tevez went running off at Gary Neville and Fergie last year when he scored just a penalty but it didn't bother me. quoteNani had just wrapped up a game which was 1-0 and incredibly close with 5 minutes to go, he's allowed to celebrate how he likes.
How can you even compare the two? First instance, the player loved the club, wanted to stay there, and the manager declined to sign him even though the fans wanted him too. He then scores against his old team and wants to go and prove a point to his ex manager. Second instance, the player shows poor sportsmanship, takes advantage of piss poor officiating, nearly *bleep*s up a tap in and then runs off celebrating wildly. Disrespectful, cheap, whatever you want to call it. There is without doubt no way at all any United fan would be on here saying "well he has every right to celebrate like that" if it was the other way round. And while we're at it, would you like me to go back and find some quotes after the Tevez celebration as I'm fairly sure a number of people were slating him? United fans especially.

No I know, to their credit some United fans have come out and said the goal was a bit of a joke. quoteI may very well have said something at the time about it, not that I can remember. Probably out of heat of the moment but looking back I'd have probably celebrated the same. Because the Tevez inicident has history, which you can use to justify and explain the celebration. What can you use to explain Nani's exuberance in scoring in such a cheap fashion?

And I say Nani could celebrate because he'd just wrapped up a very tight game which every player on that pitch for us knew was nowhere near over, if it had already been 4-0 I highly doubt he'd have celebrated the same.
"Just wrapped up a very tight game". In controversial fashion. Taking advantage of a poor decision. Poor sportsmanship. If Nani had just turned around, smiled and walked away, all I'd have said on his input was "at least he was alert". But he just showed no class with that celebration. And for the record in that Carling Cup thread everyone was laughing at Tevez for winding up all the United fans on here with his celebrations. Because there was history behind it.

If it was Arshavin. He'd have just walked off with a smile on his face, almost looking embarrassed.
Tbh, he would probably do his silly 'shooshing' the fans celebration, so you can't really use Arshavin And I remember when Gerrard scored that shit poorly defended free kick against us earlier in the season and he run off and kissed the camera, everyone was defending him saying he can celebrate how he wants, and now everyone seems to have changed their opinion on the subject because its Nani. Nothing to do with the vast difference in circumstance? Or are we ignoring the fact Gerrard's goal was to make it 2-2, in one of the "biggest rivalries" in the league. quoteI mean he probably did over-do it on the celebrating for a tap in goal. But he is having his best season for us so far, proving all the doubters wrong, and he just wrapped up a 2-0 win against another top 4 team knowing that we have given away leads lots of times this season. I think people are being harsher because they don't like Nani.
Which is what everyone has said. So what's the problem? I've not doubted his form or talent (in fact I've spent ages raving abuot him in comparison to Anderson), I just think his celebration was in poor taste given the circumstances he scored in. Oh, and Liverpool in yet another boring game shocker.

First part interesting, second part rubbish.
Whilst Reina kicking it long is strange.
Torres dropping deep is purely because he wasn't getting any of the ball.
