Any recent viewer of this forum will have no doubt seen confrontations amongst some of our regular members towards a particular few members. The main problems the moderating team have faced over the past few weeks (and months) have always been linked to this confrontation.

The Football Forum works so well because it has always been a forum with a good-humoured friendly community, it's somewhat close-knit, and the Forum has always benefited because of this resulting in a lot of laughs and moments to remember. Friendly banter is more than welcome and encouraged and although there has been somewhat of a slight difficulty in integrating new members at times in the past, the majority of new members have always slotted in comfortably to our community, something which I personally am proud of.

More recently though I'm disappointed to see some members shunned by others and picked on for the slightest point, although some may argue this is just the banter that makes the forum so good it's obvious that it's now at times going beyond this. It creates a poor atmosphere in the forum and makes some members feel unwanted, it will also look bad to prospective new members considering joining and/or posting in the forum, stopping any increasing diversity in the forum and after much discussion on the topic with Rich and Dan we've decided that it has to stop.

This isn't heaping all the blame on our forum regulars as it's a problem that emanates from both sides of the spectrum.

Please -

• If a member isn't comfortable answering personal questions then they're under no obligation to answer them, please do not press them to divulge information they don't feel comfortable telling us.

• If you do feel the need to question a member about his or her personal life then please keep it to PM. If they don't respond then that's his or her prerogative and you should respect that, don't hassle them with further PMs or in the forum for not responding.

• If you have a problem with a member for other reasons then please feel free to contact one of the moderators to discuss the problem.

• Remember that the forum is for discussing and debating football related matters and not for petty arguments.

• Also please remember that flaming is against the rules, and when debates resort to childish insults and swearing then that is a form of flaming. Please try and debate matters somewhat maturely.

• Continuing from the previous point, if you get frustrated by someone's replies in a thread then please try and argue it sensibly, maturely, and in a constructive manner. E.g. if someone calls you a gloryhunter, instead of simply saying "*bleep* off you *bleep*", please reply in a sensible manner such as -

How can I be a gloryhunter? I support a team who haven't won a major trophy since 1742 and the reason I never attend games is because I can't afford to travel to Imaginary Land every weekend and then pay the ticket price of 3 rubies.

• If you are offended by something someone has said then report the post and leave it at that. A moderator will look at it later and make a decision on it. Replying to the post only continues the problem, making more problem posts requiring moderation and also makes yourself appear somewhat of an antagonizer for continuing the conversation in such a way.

• If you report a post and a moderator restores it and you don't agree with the decision then please contact one of the forum moderators to find out why they felt it wasn't worthy of further action. Please do not simply report it again.

• Lastly, if you really cannot stand a member - ignore them. Simple.

We want to keep the atmosphere in the forum as friendly as possible and and we know you are all capable of this. We regret that it's come to having to post this but the problem has become quite prominent. We've been really quite lenient on the matter recently however please see this as a warning - further cases of this sort will be treated more severely by the moderating team until we clear the forum of the matter.

Creating New Threads

The way this forum is structured, there is most likely already a thread created which is suitable to hold most discussions. However, if you feel a topic could spark some good quality discussion it may warrant its own thread. Do not be scared to start a new thread as long as you put your own opinions in the first post. Do not post a link to an article and just "thoughts".

Individual Person or Team Threads

Please do not create threads based solely on individual teams or people (players/managers/officials etc) unless there is a recent news story involved or a strong opinion from yourself that is likely to spark discussion. There are currently threads for each footballing competition as well as for most topics of interest. Try to find a relevant or suitable thread before creating a new one unless you feel the topic definitely deserves a new thread to be created. Please understand, if we allowed threads to be created for every person and team, the forum would be overrun with threads for almost every person and team in football and the discussion would be very disconnected, not to mention how disorganised the forum would be. By grouping smaller topics into threads which cover more than one subject, it generally allows for a better discussion.

Forum Competition Threads

If you wish to participate in an ongoing forum competition then remember that it is polite to ask the member who controls the competition whether you can join first. That member is often easy to identify as they usually have the first post in that thread. If you wish to start a new competition please run it past a forum moderator before creating a thread. If you wish to carry on a competition which has previously been created but ended, please contact the original competition creator for permission, as well as informing a moderator.

Watch Your Language

This is a forum-wide rule that will be highlighted here due to the nature of this forum. The moderators and administration understand that Football is an emotional game which can spur moments of joy and moments of huge frustration. Please do not take your frustrations out on members, moderators or the administration. Neoseeker censors most profanity with but this is not an excuse to have a post filled with censored words. You are encouraged to put your vocabulary to better use and put your views across in a more conventional manner.

"Memberating"

The act of 'memberating' is when a member acts in a way that suggests they have some control or power over the forum which other members do not. This doesn't specifically refer to when member pretends to be a moderator, but more when a member acts in a way that undermines the authority of a moderator. Memberating can range from asking or suggesting for a thread to be closed, to trying to tell people what to do.

On the other hand, there are examples of helpful behaviour that are encouraged. When a new thread is created and a similar one already exists, you may provide a link to that thread and inform the member that his thread already exists. If you see a post or thread which breaches one or more of the forum or site-wide rules, please use the report feature but do not reply to posts which are spam or flaming members as this only makes the situation worse. Your intentions may be to ultimately help the forum moderator, but all you're doing is doubling the amount of spam that needs to be dealt with. A spam thread with no replies can be dealt with relatively quickly, but a page full of replies telling the member how much of a n00b they are can take a long time to sort out!

Quality Of Posts

When you have written a post, please take the time to read what you have just typed. It is always best to click on the "Spelling" button before submitting the post, as this will provide you with a preview of your post along with highlighting any spelling errors that you have made. Please refrain from constantly posting "one-liners" as these usually add very little to the discussion and are sometimes considered as spam. Elaborate as much as you can to give other members a better indication of what you are trying to say. If your post does not add anything to the discussion, or is just repeating a point already made, then re-consider posting at all. Repeated pointless posts, including "one-liners", could result in a warning and possibly a ban.

Goal Updates

We encourage you to use this forum whilst watching or listening to Football matches. It is always good to get a quick reaction to on-field events. However, we still need to keep the quality of posts at a decent level. If you have posted in a thread a post similar to "3-0 Henry" and the post is not the first to report the score, your post is unnecessary. Such posts do not add anything of value to the discussion and are liable to be deleted by a moderator. Members will be NeoPMed the contents of this rule when such a post is deleted. We are enforcing this rule to get rid of multiple people just posting the score and half a sentence every time a team scores a goal.
