	Therein lies my point. I would consider Michael Carrick to be a deep-lying midfielder or the playmaker. To dictate the play. Yet you say you never notice him? I would notice Arteta I would notice Modric I would notice Murphy. All players in a similar mould. quote twist3dfairytal3s Yes. Alonso isn't the same Alonso of Liverpool. Guti has outplayed him this season, and to be honest so has Lass. Guti is much better passer of the ball in general, and Alonso tries long shots that never seem to be threatening and just waste possession. Lass is better at defensive duties then Alonso. He's lucky that Guti is a problem in the locker room or else he wouldn't be starting. Aside from long shots and in the air through balls, I don't think Alonso has anything better then Busquets. Busqi is probably a better dribbler, and when he plays in the Xavi role he has shown that he can provide killer passes. Busquets just needs to work on the decision part of his play, because he sometimes waits a bit too long when committing to a player, so the fouls happen closer then our box then he needs to. Alonso is a playmaker and that is his job.He dosent need to do anything else. He has never been the type of player who will dribble or tackle. Xabi Alonso is the best passer of the ball ive ever seen. Busquets dosent come close.

	I don't consider Carrick to be a playmaker though, nor is he the best player on the team like those 3 players (arguably) are, and also he doesn't play as far up the pitch as those players. ------------------- Hero.

If we were to talk about this in FIFA or even FM terms, the players you mentioned are all in the AMC/CAM position. 	Arteta and Modric are both flashy dribblers and flair players, nothing like Carrick at all as players. Busquets is a pretty good passer of the ball to be fair, of course not as good as Alonso but that's what Xavi, Iniesta are there for two of the best passers in the game. Busquets is probably better at keeping possession whereas Alonso is better opening up a team. ------------------- Visit the Sports Forum!

	He's a deep-lying playmaker, who should be able to tackle for repossession when called upon. And to say a playmaker shouldn't have to have good dribbling skills is weird, you'd expect the person who has the ball the most to be able to retain possession. For Spain, if we aren't going to be starting Senna (who I'd also take over Alonso), then we need someone with defensive capabilities in the midfield, and if not Alonso then it should be Busquets. And I don't think Senna will be starting anymore. So as Mycon somewhat said, if we have Xavi, Iniesta, and Silva already, we don't need a third playmaker, we need a defensive midfielder, which is where he would have to play for Spain. -------------------

	I would consider all four players to be playmakers though. And i dont think that Alonso should start for Spain either. He deserves to be ahead of Busquets though.

He cant tackle and his dribbling is average.

	Carrick isn't Man United's playmaker though, they don't really have one I think, used to perhaps be Rooney but he's much more of a out and out striker now. ------------------- Hero.

	Michael Carrick or Paul Scholes are Uniteds playmakers. One of the reasons they cant play together.

	In the 2006-07 United team, probably one of my favourite of all-time Carrick did an excellent job as Scholes pulled the strings. Scholes was always the main playmaker at United and still is when he plays, unfortunately he's not as accurate as he once was and his tackles are even more mistimed. ------------------- Visit the Sports Forum!
