Whittaker's poor defensively so there's no chance of him being used in the middle, Papac was signed as a centre back, but I don't think he's ever played there under Smith, only when Le Guen was here. I don't think Smith thinks he's strong enough or good enough in the air to play in the centre. Our only other first team centre back is Andy Webster, who has been so injury prone he's only played one game, was sent on loan to Dundee Utd at the start of the season, and has apparently played very well and I don't think he's missed a game . Leaving us with McCulloch or youth players as our 3rd choice CB and with Smith preferring to play an experienced player out of position rather than a young player in their natural position you can figure out Smith's stance on blooding young prospects. All of this despite the fact we have a very highly rated young centre back that Harry Redknapp, and several others, has had watched a few times.
