Because one season is "season after season"? I've already mentioned that season and why I think there must be something up because they've gone backwards since. And I don't think the big 4 are always title contenders, you can never really know until October or November to tell who's contending for the title. I would never have guessed Liverpool would push for the title like they did the season just gone, and I would never have guessed Arsenal would struggle so badly.

Title contenders are the teams who at the beginning of the season have the ability to win the title. Arsenal are one of those teams, therefore are title contenders.

In 2003-2004 Man Utd finished 19 points behind Arsenal, were they title contenders that season? Of course they were they always are. Same as Arsenal.

Anyway, i'm to tired to argue this into the ground, you think hes doing a fantastic job and that Arsenal fans should be content with false hope and mediocre season after mediocre season. I think he's pulling the wool over their eyes with his 'transfer policy' and that he's just too scared to spend money because he knows that with more money comes more pressure and that if he spends big and the player flops then the eggs on his face, and he's no longer regarded as an 'economical genius' whos saving Arsenal from the recession etc.

It's hard to predict what will happen in the near future with Arsenal but I think selling Adebayor at that price is good business. They will need to spend money on proven quality players at some point though because someone is probably going to be replaced in the top four in the next two or three seasons.

One of the hardest challenges they face is keeping their top class players happy while the younger ones develop.

I cant see why there was an argument after this post. It's merely fact.

If the Adebayor deal goes through, Wenger will have to open that chequebook and bring someone in really, and do it properly by buying a player that is already up to standard. As Stef said, it's always 2-3 years away for Arsenal. In all honesty, if Citeh's spending spree continues and they do get Ade and Terry, the top 4 will be very, very much breakable, as long as Hughes gets them to gel. Then again, with all those forwards, I see City employing the "score more than you" system and hoping that Given and co. can keep as many out as possible. You can wax lyrical all you like about Wenger, Fabregas, Walcott etc. all you want, but they arent really title contenders right now. To me, they are like WBA, too good to be down amongst the pack, but not good enough to be top dog.
