EDIT: wba_4_eva I would like him to take over but it looks more likely to be Mark McGhee atm[/size]
it does seem as though a few of the celtic fans on message boards being posted on westbrom.com want mowbray. however some people are saying the board of directors want mcghee and also coyle could be tempted to take it (i can't see it now) right now i am very worried about mowbray going

very very worried right now
mowbrays usual scheduled press conference has been cancelled and nothing has been said why.
if celtic approach us for mowbray he'll be gone imo, his relationship with the chairman is strained to say the least.
peace will see the £££££ for compensation and his eyes will light up

quoteTony Mowbray update Posted on: Tue 26 May 2009
FOLLOWING widespread media speculation surrounding the vacant manager's position at Celtic, West Bromwich Albion have this afternoon issued the following statement:
"Tony Mowbray is under contract for the next two years and we fully expect him to be our manager next season. "Further than that, the club feels there is no need to comment on speculation." also, paddy power had owen coyle at 4/1 this morning, he then drifted into evens and was then odds on before they have no stopped taking bets. i know bookmakers and manager betting doesn't really say much but i would say it's more coyle than mowbray right now

I wouldnt take Aitken, Mowbray or McGhee, Bilic is a shock to me. I thought he wanted to stay with Croatia until the World Cup but maybe Rudi Vata has persuaded him to think about Celtic. As Ive said many times before, Id like Martinez to be given the job.
out of interest why martinez and not mowbray?

yeah someone in the birmingham mail has said that celtic are set to up their interest however it seems as although there's a rift between him and chairman that they will fight to keep him what're celtic like with paying compo? our chairman's one of the best out there at negotiating deals so you better be prepared to pay it

Anyway, heard that Rangers are in for Brunt again, somehow I don't understand where this 3-4m is coming from, we should sell before we look to strengthen first as we can't get ourselves further into debt. quote Dailly Rhebel
*brunt talk* double what was said and you might be getting somewhere. peace will accept nowhere near £3m for him. keep dreaming

quoteWest Brom deny boss Tony Mowbray is in talks with Celtic
Jun 3 2009 By Chris Lepkowski
West Bromwich Albion were today insisting that no approach has been made for manager Tony Mowbray.
TV reports are claiming that the manager is holding talks with Celtic officials.
Those follow initial claims, reported in Scotland that the Baggies chief was discussing terms with the Parkhead club.
But Hawthorns staff have completely denied those claims and say they have not heard from Celtic.
sky sports suck

unless you can generate £4/5m you won't be getting brunt.
he may not be well liked, but our chairman is one of the best negotiators in the game re: transfers

My source tells me that now you have been relegated, you will be willing to sell him for 2.5/3m + P/ex for Barry we could (providing mowbray stays although that looks unlikely now) probably get ferguson for £1m if he wanted to actually go. why would we sell brunt, our top scorer, who performed at a high level for the second half of the season, for £2.5m whether it includes ferguson aswell or not go and have a word with yourself we are in no position to sell

re: Scottish Football
|
quote stefan1888
i Disagree with you there, Strachan was an awful tactician, he couldnt get the team playign good football and Mowbary is renound for his teams playing good football so straight away i struggle to understand the similarities you seem to see.
Mowbary turned Hibs into a hard team to beat, especially against the Old Firm. I'm a little bemused by the Rangers fans on this thread saying he wont win a thing when its quite obvious that Celtic have the better squad but just lacked the right manager to get the team finishing off games and patching up the obvious holes in our team.
exactly people who said mowbray wouldn't change his philosophy with us, well what do you expect? mowbray's teams only know one way of playing, it would be useless trying to go direct because it wouldn't work. if mowbray had gotten the players we were close to getting (thomson, bougherra, campbell etc.) we would have stayed up. the reason we didn't stay up is because of stupid individual mistakes and a lack of firepower. when mowbray got the players he actually wanted (luke moore, cech to name but 2 were not signed by him) in jan we looked a hell of a lot stronger. im not too sure on how much difference their is between celtic and rangers, but if celtic have a half decent budget and let mowbray get the players he wants i think he'll be fairly successful there. quoteCeltic aim to pacify West Bromwich Albion today with a cheque for about £1.4 million to secure the arrival of Tony Mowbray as their new manager, otherwise Mowbray will be forced to walk out on the club if he is to take up his career in Glasgow.
Mowbray, who has his heart set on a move, is expected to be presented to the media at Celtic Park today or tomorrow as the club’s next manager, along with Peter Grant and Mark Venus, his two assistants. It will leave a question mark over the future of Neil Lennon, Celtic’s first-team coach.
Peter Lawwell, the Celtic chief executive, will hold talks today with Jeremy Peace, the West Brom chairman, in the hope of thrashing out a deal. Peace is said to be aggrieved at the way Celtic have so blatantly courted his manager, although he may also be dealing with a fait accompli. The likelihood is that West Brom will accept Celtic’s offer of compensation.
Mowbray has a release clause in his West Brom contract, which was stipulated by the manager when he arrived at the Hawthorns from Hibernian in 2006, in the full knowledge that his managerial stock was on the rise.
Failure between Celtic and West Brom to strike an agreeable compensation package has led one West Brom director to openly hint that Mowbray could be “frozen out” of football, but this fanciful scenario will not happen.
Having said that, Mowbray will not want to walk out on West Brom, a club with whom, notwithstanding his strained relationship with Peace, he has had good relations. The fans have idolised their manager and it would sour his move to Celtic if Mowbray was forced to desert the club, triggering a potential legal dogfight.
Speaking of the impending arrival of Mowbray, one of his former Celtic Park team-mates, Andy Walker, said yesterday: “I found Tony a really impressive guy in the dressing-room, a good communicator, and a strong character. He has the potential to do really well at Celtic. It would be hugely exciting.”
Another man who heartily endorses Mowbray’s imminent appointment is John Hartson, the former Celtic striker, whom Mowbray signed for West Brom in 2006. “I’ve said all along that Tony was the man for Celtic,” Hartson said. “He is a fantastic football coach, who gives players the confidence to express themselves.”
Meanwhile, Mark McGhee is expected to be unveiled as the new Aberdeen manager today, two weeks after Jimmy Calderwood’s abrupt departure from the club. McGhee, who had been linked with the Celtic job — and, indeed, had waited to see that situation clarified — is expected to sign a two-year contract with his old club.
Motherwell have accepted compensation from Aberdeen for McGhee, and will now join the current throng of clubs trying to find a new manager.
