I'm afraid I'm with sweenEy guys. I'm sorry, I'd like to have a General Discussion thread aswell, but this is the third time in recent history that supers have had to get involved because of issues stemming from the General Discussion and members who frequent it late at night.

I'd like to say; "go and have your general discussion thread, the offenders have been punished" - but the simple truth is only some people have been. There were others involved who were maybe not in the thick of the action last night, but they certainly didn't stay out of it. Unluckily a few good members who don't usually cause trouble around the forums got caught out last night and have thus received lengthy bans.

This may seem harsh but the minority have spoiled it for everyone else. This forum has a very bad reputation on the site with members in general, including other moderators and supers. When they see football forum members behaving in an unacceptable manner they don't necessarily know if it's your first offence or your 5th. Everyone from this forum is tarred with the same brush because of incidents that a handful of members have been involved in in the past.

We want to change that. GD aside this forum is probably one of the best on the site for discussion and quality of posts. However, because of the GD shenanigans which have spread to other forums everyone assumes this place is packed to the rafters with trolls, idiots and pricks.

When people think badly of a forum, they look at the moderators and ask why they're not doing a better job to stop things getting out of hand. The only way I can see to improve things is to remove the General Discussion. This is the action that we, as moderators of this forum, are taking. The bans handed out last night, whether you think they are harsh are not, are nothing to do with us. That's the action the supers saw fit because those members were rule-breaking across forums. Not everyone who was involved was punished and some members were maybe a bit unlucky to be punished as harshly as they were. To stop things like this happening in here again the General Discussion will be suspended until we see fit to re-introduce it.

Remember that when you post in other forums, because of these incidents, you effectively carry a big sign that says "I'm a football forum regular, remember us? We're those idiots who are always causing trouble and getting banned!" This sign acts like a big bullseye for a ban hammer if you act in any way that could be deemed inappropriate.

Also, off limits or not, I don't really like publicising or disclosing information about other members' bans unless I think it is necessary.

Meh, bye then. No point posting in a dead forum, nor is there a point bothering when double standards are applied by those above you purely because they don't know/like the members that frequent here.

Yeah, GD is the biggest thread during the summer, you'll lose half your regulars over the summer if you take that away.

The best summer discussion comes from transfers and any summer tournaments. Hopefully there can be some competitions and some good discussion created around the upcoming U21 championships in the summer.

Not really. Obviously something has stuck in your mind. You wouldn't just be gassing hot air would you? Give it to me in general terms if you like, no need for specific examples.
