Abidal, clearly better? He's poor, he's slow and doesn't have the positional sense of a left back, I also don't rate him going forwards. This was shown at Euro 2008 when he looked out of his depth in the French squad. Clichy is a lot better, he's becoming a complete defender.

Well, not clearly, i'd probably prefer Clichy to Abidal. But the fact that he didnt even get into the squad probably indicates that he's not the best left back in the world.

And if Abidal is so poor, then that just makes it worse because even he is ahead of Clichy.

You're forgetting Domenech's a complete pleb who couldn't win a game at the Euros, despite on paper having one of the top 2 or 3 squads. He also brought Makelele and Gomis but left Flamini and Trezeguet at home.

If Clichy didn't have his pace, he wouldn't be half the player everyone makes him out to be. Lucky for him he does, so I do rate him. Abidal on the other hand looked quality in the few Barcelona games I saw towards the beginning of the season, didn't see him so much towards to end but apparently he turned shit.

I've probably got a team in here somewhere, but here's my latest:



Casillas - Either him or Buffon and I haven't seen Buffon much since Juve got relegated.
Ramos - Great going forward and back, only competition would be Alves but I'm not sure about how good he is defensively especially with no cover, but Ramos should be used to that.
Maldini - I know he's old, and I haven't seen much of him, but I need someone solid defensively because of Messi, and I need a captain. Plus I love Maldini.
Terry / Cannavaro - Quality stopper who's big and would work well with Cannavaro who's more of a sweeper.
Pirlo - Creative playmaker
Essien - I need a box to box type midfielder who can actually add something to the team (ruling out Guttusso). I only chose Essien over Gerrard because I feel he'd protect Pirlo more.
Ronaldo - best player in the world
Messi - Who else would be a better wide player, other than Ronaldo or Robinho? I had to slot him in soemwhere anyhow.
Robinho - Plays best just off the front man
Torres - Him or Drogba really.

Edit: Actually, I'd have Mascherano over Pirlo because otherwise Essien's my only ball winning midfielder.

Nel, I left out Ronaldog because I use chemistry as a part of my choice, also because Messi shits all over him.

Also anyone putting Villa obviously only saw him at the Euros, he's good, but by far not the best.

I am a Valencian, been rooting for Villa to take Raul out for years now with Spain, and I still don't rate him as a world class striker.

He is a quality striker, I'm not taking that away from him. But I just think there a few people who would have to be overlooked for Villa to be World XI potntial.

Could be a top 10, but I'm not really thinking of people in my head that come before or after him.

Also depends on what type of player your want. Some people might prefer Guiza only because he scored more goals, I personally don't. For example, Eto'o (a #9) might get more goals than Henry, but who's to say who's better, one lurks in the penalty area while the other makes brilliant goals. Not to say that Eto'o can't but ... everyone gets my point so i'll end it there.

I thnik alot of it is to do with, people playing a 4-5-1 with Torres up front. I mean for strikers, you could have to pick from Torres, Villa, Henry, Eto'o, Berbatov, Rooney, Ibrahimovic, Drogba etc etc.
