To summarise;

MON failed in the tough task of trying to get Barry to stay [failing to contact the player in the past 3 weeks so what a poor attempt he made of that], plus you can't blame Barry for wanting to try and win some silverware in his career. Now MON's main objective is to try and get the best price for him as he can, instead of just accepting the first bid that Liverpool come up with.

So why is he going to Liverpool?

Berbatov was intent on securing a mega-money move to one of Europe’s giants this summer, but so far no one has been able to come close to Spurs’ asking price.

The likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and AC Milan were all scared off by the Bulgarian striker’s ₤25million price tag, while Manchester City reportedly had a ₤32million bid knocked back.

Manchester United remain the 27-year-old’s most enamoured suitors, having been comprehensively priced out of the race for Olympique Lyon’s ₤48million prodigy Karim Benzema.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson is supposedly considering other – and most certainly cheaper – options, such as Ajax hitman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Russian gun Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Hence, Berbatov will turn up at Spurs’ Chigwell training complex today with his future still in limbo and his Champions League dream fading fast – as will his strike partner, Keane.

The Lilywhites have reportedly received a solid offer from Liverpool for the Irishman, a player-plus-cash deal that would see Peter Crouch and ₤5million move to White Hart Lane.

Keane is reputed to have demanded a transfer after learning of the Reds’ interest, but Spurs boss Juande Ramos – as demonstrated with his stance on Berbatov – is unlikely to let one of his best players leave unless he gets absolute top dollar in return.

The Mirror reports that Ramos is not uninterested in Crouch, however, meaning the Merseyside giants may get their man if they can double the cash element of their offer.
