Reserve & Academy Football

So what's happening behind the scenes of your clubs?
In a much more important match this evening, our Reserve side - made of mainly players who've been out on loan to Championship or lower class sides, some of our better youth prospects (like Motumbo and Subotic) and Lucien Aubey beat a Spurs team 1-0 with the likes of Danny Rose, Gunter, Perkhart and Dervitte starting for the away side.
Quite pleased with the result, and love watching the progression of our academy team.

re: Reserve & Academy Football

We've released a load of youngsters from our academy, with only two players being offered professional contracts. I thought Page (ex-Tottenham), Udoji (ex-Rushden) and Govas may make the grade, but obviously haven't.
quoteIt is being reported that keeper Nick Jordan is the most high profile youngster to be released having maybe played some part in pre season last summer, I know for a fact he played a few games the summer before that. Also being shown the door after failing to graduate the Academy are Andreas Govas, Ugo Udoji, Steve Walker, Joe Oastler and Jon Page.
It is said that Jordan and Udoji are having trials with Exeter, Dorchester are looking at Page - no pun intended - and Govas is trying his luck in Greece, so you never know, he might end up playing against Lomana LuaLua, if he stays out there himself?
There is better news for local lads Matt Ritchie and Joel Ward though as the pair have been offered pro forms.
Gosport born Ritchie is a midfielder, who can also operate on the left wing and Ward, from Emsworth plays in central defence.

re: Reserve & Academy Football

Well Nick Jordan was given a squad number last year as a 16 year old, and I was under the belief that he'd be able to break into the first team in the coming seasons. But he was injured earlier this season and since we've brought in Liam O'Brien and Tommy Smith was very good in Jordan's place during his injury, Hart obviously felt he wouldn't be able to make an impact at the club with Begovic and Ashdown also in our first team squad.
Ugo Udoji was brought to the club with Paris Cowan-Hall and Callum Reynolds from Rushden and Diamonds with Paul Hart. He's looked like a solid defender (right-sided I believe) from what I've seen of him, but I think he's lacking the technical ability to flourish at Premier League level. Should be good for a Conference side, for sure.

I knew about it, as a Pompey fan?
I think he cracked his knee cap for the third time in his short career, leading him to being released a few weeks ago.

Gary O'Neil is the only player to really make an impact coming through our academy in the last decade or so.
And he was originally with Millwall, just like Liam O'Brien and Tom Kilbey who are currently at our academy.

Pompey's academy are still on course for a top three finish in their first season with academy status after we beat Cardiff and MK Dons in the last few weeks.
Hopefully we'll see a few make the step up this summer, either being loaned out or impressing in pre-season.

We lost 6-0 to Chelsea's reserves just a few weeks ago. Don't know what the *bleep* Guy Whittingham is doing, but that's 12 goals in two games we've conceded. Wouldn't surprise me if it's mostly academy players, seeing as most of our squad are over in Dubai currently. Edit - And it was. Everyone but Jerome Thomas is under the age of 19. Edit: Mar 10, 09

Our academy comfortably beat Charlton 3-0 this weekend. Paris Cowan-Hall, Dan Bogard and Tom Kilbey with the goals.
Expecting big things from Kilbey and Cowan-Hall. Hopefully they'll get some time out on loan next year. Kilbey's a bit like Lampard, but is an absolute monster in the air and Cowan-Hall reminds me of Robbie Keane.

Haha. We're up against Stoke's reserves tonight. Currently 0-0, but look at the 'quality' of their squad compared to our academy team, plus Primus. Simonsen Griffin - Cort - Sonko - Dickinson Tonge - Olofinjana - Faye - Etherington Creswell - Camara
Begovic Hurst - Primus - Mantyla - Blackman Nlundulu - Pack - Kilbey - Mahoto - Navas-Alors Cowan-Hall Edit: Mar 17, 09

We've got a lad called McCormick playing for our reserves tonight.
Hopefully it's not Luke McCormick.

Tom Kilbey scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 away win against WBA's reserves this evening. Quality.

Our youth team is currently competing in the FC Saint-Joseph tournament. ESTAC Troyes, Saint-Etienne, Sochaux, Amiens, Red Star Belgrade, Yeggo and St Jospeh are also represented in the competition. We are playing Senegalese team Yeggo in the 5th/6th place playoff today after coming third in our pool (1st to 3rd was determined through goal difference ), behind ESTAC and Saint-Etienne. We beat St Joesph and Saint-Etienne 2-1, then lost 2-0 to ESTAC.

What was his name HH?
Our academy and youth teams have been just as disrupted as our first team this season. First was the movement of our backroom staff during Adams' short regime, then another restructure at the appointment of Hart. Recently, Guy Whittingham has produced some decent results with our development squad and after Hart's promotion, Mark Kelly, formally our Irish based scout has taken over as our youth team coach, with varied results.
We came fifth in that St Joesph's tournament, beating Yeggo 2-0.
