Liverpool - January Transfer Activity

Ok so basically this is a fresh start from the popular thread "Liverpool....Spending Big"

I thought i'd create a new thread to deal with the January transfer activity coming up.

Last time (in the summer) we were all wondering who Liverpool were going to splash the cash on to 'Bring the title to Anfield.'

This time round, it's different......We have a small amount of money and we need to improve our current squad to challenge for the title.

So, the rumours and deals have started already so here we go.

The creative attacking midfielder is reportedly being tracked by Rafa


Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - Ajax - ?
Man City, United and Liverpool all sent scouts out to Holland over the weekend to keep an eye of the Dutch striker


Arango - Mallorca - ?
Arango has announced he is flattered to be linked with Liverpool and revealed he would love the chance to play for us

Goran Pandev - Lazio - ?
Lazio forward has been linked with a move away from the club

Matias Fernandez - Villarreal - ?
The creative wonderkid has been linked with a move to Liverpool but imo i dont see it happening.


Javier Mascherano - £10mil-17mil?
A deal needs to be secured to sign Masch on a long term deal. Struggling for the funds maybe? May try in the summer instead. Rafa has confidence he wont join another club.


Sulley Muntari - Portsmouth - ?
Rafa was alerted after Muntari claimed he will "Eventually" move to a bigger club. May move for him if we dont get Masch but i cant see it happening imo


Sergio Asenjo - Valladolid - Buy out clause of 3.3mil?
18 year old keeper. Also being tracked by United and Everton


Ezequiel Garay - Racing - £8mil-15mil?
Could move for the brilliant young and talented Garay. Racing want Leto and El Zhar on loan whcih would help Rafa secure a first option deal for Garay. But i doubt it when we have already signed Skrtel.


Gabriel Heinze - Madrid - £5mil-8mil?
Reports claim we could end up getting him after all.


Javi Martinez - Bilbao - £15mil?
It seems extremely unlikely we will for that price with our supposedly lack of funds and also with the Masch situation





Tomas Ujfalusi - Fiorentina - £500,000?
Contract is up at the end of the season and he may be allowed to leave early for a cut price

Update: Says no to Liverpool move


Kakha Kaladze - Ac Milan - £3mil-5mil?
Definitely interested as Rafa said we may have missed out. Could still happen though



Steven Taylor - Newcastle - ?
In need of a defender and Taylor seems to be the one most Liverpool fans want. And according to some sources a few weeks ago its just a matter of time before Taylor leaves for a big club in hope to ignite an England career


Martin Skrtel - Around 7mil?
23 year old Slovakian centre back. Highly regarded. Reports indicate Skrtel has flown into Merseyside to complete a move to Liverpool. 7mil is the rumoured amount but it could be lower imo. DEAL COMPLETED

Momo Sissoko - Juve? Inter? Everton? Atletico? - £8mil-12mil?
Sissoko has announced his frustration about not being a regular and cannot accept playing "1 in every 5 games" Plus, he may be sold due to the fact that he cant play football to save his life

Peter Crouch - Man City? - £8mil-£13mil?
Hasnt been a regular this season and Sven may be interested. He's a big fan of Crouch and Crouch also has a secret affection for the club

Scott Carson - Aston Villa - £8mil-£10mil?
On loan and a deal wants to be struck

Rafa Benitez?
Reports in Munich claimed their new manager Jurgen Klinsmann was offered a huge deal from Liverpool. Liverpool owner Tom Hicks today revealed he did speak with Klinsmann about the possible replacement. So it doesnt look good for Rafa

Gillet & Hicks?
After all this off the pitch stuff reports claim investment group DIC Dubai International Capital are preparing a 500mil bid to buy the club

Well i cant wait to see what this Skrtel is like. He is highly rated and Rafa has tracked him for 5 years now so he cant be bad.

Tell me if i've missed anything and i'll add it.

I hope we sell Sissoko, he doesn't do much does he?

I hope we sell them three players (Sissoko, Carson and Crouch), sounds like good rumoured money too. I don't know where you heard all of these players from.

The only one from that list I know of in the rumoured transfer is Kaladze coming to us.

Tbh i'd rather that than him attempting to do something.

In my opinion you need another defender. None of these average joes mind. They need to spend big on a top class, highly rated defender. However due to lack of money this transfer window wanting to be spent, I very much doubt this will happen.

If Rafa played Crouch that little bit more, maybe you'd score some more goals. But I wouldn't sell him imo. Carson I would keep as he looks good for the future and Sissoko just doesn't need mentioning.

Ezequiel Garay would be a class buy for Liverpool so I think they should go for him.

Well most teams anyway, if a fan of the team can be arsed to do one then i say yes, there should be.

EricF - Yeah they've been rumoured everywhere really mate. There are more but i only metioned the ones who have been rumoured a few times or are worth mentioning really

Yep, Sissoko's not up to much. He's a pretty good defensive midfielder with his stamina, power and pace but Rafa plays him mostly as an attacking midfielder lol
I'd much prefer the money because we have better players and i cannot bare to watch when he gets the ball

Harman - Yeah i'd like that too but i very much doubt we'll buy another attacker in jan. Defender is a MUST and Rafa has pretty much made that clear

And just get shot of Carson. Thats like free money. He's proved he can be a right donkey when he wants to be. I know he's a decent keep and good for the future but its just not going to happen with Reina playing day in day out. I'd much rather a free £10mil and Itandje as back up tbh

Power - Yeah i know, we've spent hardly anything but it seems as though the owners are struggling for cash with the whole new stadium situation
