Forum Feedback & Suggestions

I was going to post a thread for feedback on a particular issue so thought we may aswell have one for all forum issues. I've unfloated the header submissions thread but it remains open(here) for you to continue to contribute to the header.

The first issue I'd like feedback/suggestions on is Forum Competitions. There are currently only the usual pools competitions running. Does anyone have any ideas for them? New ideas are preferred, things that haven't been done before. I don't want people volunteering to run anything at this stage, although if you come up with a good, new idea then if it goes ahead you'll be given first choice if you want to run it.

I also want to gauge opinion on a new forum quiz. The biggest issues with forum quizes are how to eliminate cheating. Whether people cheat or not, if there is the opportunity to cheat members will accuse each other of doing so. One idea I had was to have a "live" quiz, hosted either on MSN or in IRC, where a group of people would all come in at a pre-arranged time (perhaps even a regular slot each week/twice weekly) and it would be a case of me asking questions and the first to answer gets a point.

Of course this limits entrants to those who are available at those particular times, does anyone have any other ideas to eliminate cheating?

Wouldn't need to be everyone. I could list a few times a week that I'll be available to do it and when people join they indicate which of the times I'm available matches up with a time they are available and I'd try and sort people into groups of even-ish size depending on who's available when.

Right I'm off to Spain for a few days. There should hopefully be a temp mod promoted sometime tonight so if there's any trouble contact that person when they are promoted Anything that needs attention in the next few days should be directed to him, otherwise you can still PM me and I'll give you a reply on Friday night.

This would be a good idea, would be nice to see hardly any goal updates in threads but instead in the IRC, and post the detailed HT/FT or just detailed views in the thread.

Yeh I was planning on running it myself, and if it ends up being too much then enlist the help of someone.

And yeh I was planning on talking to Dyno when he's next on.

The main concern I have over it is the popularity, as some others have gone down the pan pretty quickly due to inactivity.

Maybe, but surely it is worth a try, hopefully you will be proven wrong by OOTER & Co, LOLZ.

The FM version was pretty quiet for a while but then the general disussion thread in the FM forum was stopped so I think activity picked up a bit.
