I encountered this today myself. I got the marrow and membrane so need the breath and liquer BUT I read somewhere on gamespot recently that I shouldn't drop of a ledge to get one of the ingrediants (membrane I think) as I will not be able to get back. It said I should explore all of the northern area before fetching that ingrediant. I've an xbox with a previous save so will be back stepping a little and won't be diving of any ledges, lol.
Hopefully this helps both of us.

Sorry man, I would assume so. I don't delete saves until that quest is successfully completed for this very reason. There has been a few quests in Oblivion where I had to load an older save to get me out of a rut.
In this case I had to load the last save (which was 30min before), I'm just lucky I suppose. I got stuck between two tangled root gates near enough each other in the Caverns of Susurration and gave up trying after half an hour. There were NO levers or buttons etc and couldn't pursue the breath ingredient. Definetly had to reload. Do you even have an autosave file before you got stuck? If not I can only advise start shivering isles again and spend a couple of hours running around invisible past enemies and trying to quickly get back to this stage. Shouldn't take you long as you know what to do now. Painful but worth it right? And make sure you keep a lot of older saves. Good luck anyway...

Yeah I have all the ingredients now.
I didn't hop down to get the Dermis Membrane this time. I explored all the hallways and stairs instead and ended up not getting stuck. You see I think what is happening is, the tangled roots either open one way or because I hopped down too early, I was on the wrong side of the roots or that bit wasn't activating because I wasn't getting the ingredients in order. (P.S I got the marrow first, membrane second, breath third and liqueur last this time). Hate to be the bringer of bad news dude but I'm 99% sure that's the story. Would love to be contradicted for your sake. Other than that keep the savegame as a just in case and restart shivering isles? It will pay off in the long run. Although this would probably mean starting the whole of oblivion again? Not a prospect I would like. Well all the best and good luck.
