new hunter tips and help

hey, saphire here well this is embarrassing ... keep getting my butt handed to me by the great jaggi, I'm sure this has happened to many others not with just the great jaggi but other monsters as well, wanted to ask, maybe start a thread where other new players can ask questions and get tips and tricks from pros out there any how my question:

how to get past the great jaggi? i have a bone lance+ and leather armor up to level 3 still cant seem to get any farther then i am been doing my quests just not having much luck, any help is appreciated.

hammer your way through your first Great Jaggi is always easy , i remeber he made me fail so many times, i eventualy just used a greatsword on him i look at Great Jaggi as your first evasion training, because hes pretty fast but not that strong, the only thing you gotta look out for are the hip-checks, try to get outa the way cause they do the most damage... yupp think thats bout it, good luck !

dont goota worry bout the little ones, they wont do much damage, just focus on attacking and rolling away when he hip-checks

finally killed the great jaggi and with time to spare, lanced it with a tip a friend of mine told me to use, guard and stab it several times. then with combined with barrel bombs which i used when he was both asleep (which did him in mostly) and when he was running around me i used a pit trap as well before throwing a large bomb down got him stuck then put a small barrel bomb down then guard stab stab and i was done

Yea lances can almost always save the day.
When in doubt, lance it out

You can't get Longswords until after Great Jaggi. [quite a bit after, I think.]

Give it time, you'll learn it's movements.

Try to aim for the head. It's a weak spot.


Do the kill quest until you've made the armour. It gives attack up. ^{[Citation needed]}


Once you've made the armour you should be used to how it attacks, and the capture will be easier.

try getting the capture guru skill and paintball him, itll tell you whne hes ready to be capped

LOL, funny cause i destroyed my first great jaggi in like 8 minutes with a hunters knife+ or upgrade of it...idk. And also, IMO cap guru isnt that usefull at a lowrank, you would know cause it limps. Once you do cap quests as a pro then you need cap guru, you might end up killing it. Like when me and sci are helping noobs, we say "No cap. Were too strong" and we do kill. The only monster i had to get like 5 tries on was royal ludroth tbh. I tryed using my bone axe+...it wasnt cause i died (psh, i never died offline) but because my time limit reached RIGHT when it limped Just saying Sapphire, good luck with royal ludroth.

no, just, NO.

Cap guru can be useful for a few reasons besides not killing the monster on accident.

for example, you could be like sapphire here who has trouble with monsters (or who used to at least) and you could use it to end the quest quicker since monsters are ready for capture some time before they even start limping.

Or, when you are doing kill quests of monsters and capping them instead. Why would you do that? well some quests have subquests for the things you are trying to get, like a peco's flintstones or rathians head (which give break rewards) and I think capping helps to improve your chances of getting that specific material, be it a plate or flintstone.

so yeah cap guru =/= unhelpful at low rank, why do you think they put it on bone mail?
