Auction House Price Advice
|
Hi guys,
I am relatively new to WoW and was just looking for advice on what price i should sell my ores for.
I am currently able to mine silver ore and was hoping for advice on the price at which i should sell the following ores,
Silver, Tin and Copper
Thanks

Unfortunately no one would really be able to help you set your prices on your server, based on the fact all the servers have a different economy.
What I usually do when selling ore is check the prices of the ore on the AH first, and then decide if I want to sell it for that price or not. Usually I undercut the lowest price a little and hope for the best.
Sometimes I will also check the price of the bars and see what sells for more, with the most profit.

The auction house can be a bit tricky at times, it really all depends on whether or not, a) a new expansion comes out, b) a new large patch comes out, and c) how many gold farmers you have on your server. Generally there are a few people who control the majority of the economy, and prices are set by them. You might not know that, or who they are, but believe me, they're there.
The lower level ores probably won't be selling for very much, but if you keep at it they will because people are always trying to level new professions. You just need to check the price of what you're selling before you post it. I would probably check it over a couple days before posting, just to see if you can find a day at which they sell for more. Typically stuff like ore, herbs and any gathering materials will sell for less over the weekend because there are more people on farming them. So you're probably better off selling the ore on say, a Wednesday or Thursday, or even a Monday.

a decent tool is just looking to see what the going rate is by searching for the same items currently listed. undercut by a gold or two or whatever you feel is a competetive price. people will always buy the cheapest availalbe. but the best method i feel is actually knowing how rare something is. being a well itemized piece of gear, some type of gathered resource that either spawns rarely or is otherwise tedious to acquire, or even an item that is fairly common but is used in large quantities by lots of people. this only comes with experience but there are some items i just won't go below a certain price on. if the market becomes flooded with such an item i'll hold on to mine and wait for it to calm back down, or ideally when there are no others listed. i usually make my biggest killings during the weekdays. like archangel said there is always someone leveling a profession and there is always someone with a grip of gold who will pay an exhorbitant price for the convenience of not having to farm something themselves. especially if yours are the only ones up for auction. for the items you listed for your profession, don't expect to get much more than 9-15 gold for either copper or tin. silver on the other hand you can unload for upwards 50g a stack.

What i do is gather up the ores into a stack of 20 and check the current buyout price for a stack of 20 for that ore. Then I put it in the ah and reduce the price slightly so it appears at the top of the 20 ore stacks in the ah and is the cheapest so buyers generally buy it first. I sell everything this way and it always sells.

I want to add on that you shouldn't be a dick and undercut people by a lot. Those are the kinds of people that completely ruin a market, especially when it comes to gems. Take last week for example... Rigid Ocean Sapphires were going for a good 115g each, and within 2 days, assholes decided to undercut to hell and now they're only going for 60g on a good day.

I'm a big fan of undercutting by huge margins, actually, because in my experience the market is overinflated as *bleep*. I mean really, a stack of bolts of linen cloth is like 8G on my server. That's really, really stupid. In fact, because the market is so overinflated, as a level 42 character i've made more than 4k G in a very short time. Back before the first expansion, that would have been completely impossible.
Likewise, if you don't like it when people undercut you, you can just buy their low price listing and place it back up at your price. Really, a single player can actually exercise quite a bit of control over the auction house.

The only time it's profitable to buy from an undercutter is if they placed the item at a 10% lower price then you. Anything less then 10% will end up costing you money.

my take on low level cloths being disproportionatley expensive is that people are paying for the convenience of not farming over the actual value of the item.
there's nothing stopping anyone from farming them themselves.

I have seen this back fire horribly on people. I am proud to have been responsible for the ore crash on Vek. I also made so much gold from it. =D

I just go to the auction house, look at the cheapest price, and then undercut. I don't even care how ridiculous the price is, I just do it.
Maybe the reason my server is selling / buying elementium ore for 40g a stack is because people love to follow my attitude but meh.

The way that I tend to do it is look at what prices it's going for and undermine that price, so if a stack of 20 ore is going for 45g? Sell it for 40g and so on.

Auction addons can be very misleading, doing your own investigating often gives much better results. People that don't know how to use Auctioneer have given me massive profits at times (selling stacks for ridiculously low etc).
