No doubt you have heard what the reviewers are saying about this game, its hard controls, its lack of strafing, its liniar combos
I claim right here that the reviewers have not given more than 10 minuets to this game
I have been playing OMF since before its release as a tester, so il go through some of the reviewers arguments and tell you all what realy happens in game
1) "Hard controls, no mouselook"
The controls are:
Left Punch: A
Right Punch: S
Left Kick: Z
Right Kick: X
Movement: Arrow Keys
These are the best controls with a keyboard for this game, just because they are not your standard FPS controls does not automaticly make them bad
No, there is no mouselook, and anyone who thinks that a mouse + wasd is a better system hasnt played the game long enough
The mouse could never serve any purpose at all in OMF:BG, this setup would limit you to 2 attack buttons, maybe a middle or wheel for Jump or Evade, note that with the current setup you have 4 attack buttons
As for Aiming, let me ask you. Do you need this sort of Aiming in a normal fighting game? the answer is No, and neither do you need it in OMF, it is NOT and FPS, it is a fighter
2) "Lack of Joypad/stick support"
This is plain ignorant, just go to the control setup and arm the keys to the Joypad
3) "Lack of strafing"
Again, someone couldnt be bothered, to sidestep you press Evade + Left or Right, to do a quick roll or dodge you double tap, this also works in the air, there are also flip evades if you double tap a key with jump, these work in all 4 directions, your dodging options are NOT limited
4) "Lack of Auto-facing"
Some reviewers seem to think the game would be better if you were locked into a target, however the OMF community rightly beleives that this would defeat the object of the game, if you patch to the latest version there is an auto-face on Forward+Evade but realisticly you dont need it
5) "Lack of Side Attacks"
Side throw: Left or Right + Both Punch Buttons
Light Side attack (Latest Version): Left or Right + Punch
Heavy Side Attack (Jaguar, Mantis, Pyros and Warlord): Double tap left or right + Punch
Heavy Side Attack (Force and Gargoyle): Double tap left or right + kick, hold the kick in with Force for a longer attack
6) "Boring repetative music"
The music is not repetative, it is Dynamic
The music changes depending on how well the player is doing, and how long it is till the end of the match
During the reviewers 2 or so minuets maximum in online play he isnt going to get to the point where the Music changes to signify that it is nearing the end of the round, and if said reviewer is being constantly pummeled because he is playing it like a Soul Calibre style button basher (which it isnt) then yet the music will be a little repetitive for him, but realistlicly this isnt going to be the case
7) "Its not like Soul Calibre"
Nope, it isnt like Soul Calibre, I dont see why this is a bad thing, it wasnt meant to be a Soul Calibre cloan, and it shouldnt be played as if it is, if you expect a Soal Calibre cloan you wont bet much out of the game, apreciate it for what it is, not what all of the other Fighting games try to copy
8) "Button Bashing is the best tactic, not like Soul Calibre"
DE (the developers) have gone to great lengths to make this not a button basher, and it has worked
If you are being button bashed from the front you will autoblock
If you are in a button bash just press the Counter buttons and their next attack will be reversed, no more button bash
2 of the same attack in a row will knock the opponent down, thus stopping the button bash
Soul Calibre can be completed on the hardest difficulty setting by button bashing, OMF Cant
9) "The AI isnt very smart, and is no challenge"
The reviewer obviously needs to move the difficulty setting up from "Rookie", I find "Veteran" level AIs a good fight and "Master" level AIs almost impossible
Yes I have to say that they will occasionaly do stupid things, but what AI doesnt?
Neverwinter nights: "Im a little wolf, there is a pile of Warewolf bodies surrounding this adventurer, I can take him"
Tekken4: "Fast old Lee Chaolin is in close range, I know il kill him with my slow warm up one hit wonder attack"
UT2004: "This Rocket Launcher is the perfect thing for close range combat"
10) "Combos get no more complicated than Forward+Backward+Punch"
Heres a 27 Hit Pyros combo for you:
a.LK, RP, LK, a.fRK, a.LP, LP, fRP, fRK, RK, fLK, a.RP, a.RK, a.fLK, a.fRP, a.fLP, SuperFireSpin
id like to see you do that by only pushing 3 buttons, a. denotes "In the Air", f denotes "Forwards+"
Yes there are some 10 hit combos that are performed automaticly with combinations like "Forwards, Forwards, Both Punches" these auto-combos are Super Moves, it takes a bar of energy every time you use one, but their presence doesnt mean that more complicated combos like the one above dont exist
The combo system in OMF is one of the funnest ones you can find, instead of having pre-set combos, some of the moves in OMF "Link" to form combos, by mixing up Linked moves you create your own combos, its up to you to work out which moves Link
11) "There are only 2 Gametypes"
OMF: 2 Gametypes
Other Fighters: 1 Gametype
I hope I have convinced you that OMF is not the game the reviewers make it out to be, you can get the demo and try it yourself at www.omf.com try posting on the Message Board there where most of the community hang out
This is the future of the Fighting Genre, 2.5D games like Tekken and Soul Calibre cant live up to what this represents, now Fighting has truely moved into the 3D era

Very well said Mordax.
In regard to the combos
LK, RP, RK, a.LP, a.RP, a.RK, (RK)Razorspin, (RP)Risingblade, a.fLP, a.fRP, a.fLK, a.Super Razor Spin, Super Blade Spin, Super Rising Blade, a.LK, a.fRK, fLP, fRP, fLK
That is a 53 hit combo with Katana. If THAT is not in-depth, then an in-depth combo system will never exist.
Check out http://omfmausoleum.omffansites.com and see just how many different combos there are; and those combos only really scratch the surface of the combo system.
