For those who haven't heard Mythic has incorporated something to defend players from gankers. Basically if a character flags him/herself pvp in a zone below their level zone then they are turned into a Chicken if order or into a Chaos Chicken if Destruction. The Chicken/Chaos Chicken has 1hp and a peck attack for 1 dam. This happens in all realm types, so even those who choose a Open RvR realm will be unable to gank lower chars in the PvE and lvl based RvR areas at least, not sure how it will effect city defence as that seem a bit free for all.

Now to me that is brilliant, as I feel any kind of griefing should be left at home, but I thought I'd ask folks opinions as I see on WoW forums all the time the argument for and against the rights of gankers.

pfft It's a good thing as it means you can actually start a new character and not have to worry about getting slaughtered by some higher level player who thinks he is top shit for killing a level one.

It keeps the World PvP competitive and balanced, meaning you actually have to be good in order to make a difference. Seeing as how Even the lowbies can help the level 40s win a capital city siege, this was probably done to prevent the level 40s from coming down into the lower tiered areas and gobbling up all the objectives there to give them the tier 4 bonuses.

A system of level reduction would be more suited. Since this just inbalances things the other way. What you really want is for high level players to basically be limited off to the highest level that an area was really meant for and then have equipment statistic reductions to a simular effect (rather then needing to get a set of level 20/40/60/etc equipment for the RVR zone.

Basically you want something where a higher level has an advantage over a lower level but the lower level can still defeat the higher level if they have enough skill to overcome the slight bonuses that the higher level has over the lower level... if you get my drift =P.

An example would be a street thug and a soldier... give them both a gun and it only takes one hit for either to win the fight. The thug can kill the soldier but the soldier still has the advantage as he has been trained and is physically stronger... but he isn't insanely overpowered... he isn't gunna live if he is shoot in the head.

There will be plenty of PvP to be had. There just won't be higher levels ganking lower levels. So I personally don't mind the chicken system, and I think it helps balance things out.

I adore the idea. Maybe because I like shape shifting. Maybe because one day we'll see a raid of chickens on a tier 1 RVR zone.

They most likely have it in place to keep things balanced on the larger scale of things. The take over of cities will be really important. Implementing the chicken is one way of avoiding a ton of complaining, and avoiding a ton of mathematical balancing issues.

this is great, cause ganking and griefing is gay. this just sounds like a good balance thing for them to do. its kinda funny to turn into a chicken though.

and what the *bleep* is a Chaos chicken?

If you go into a lower tier zone and get chickened, your PVP flag automatically goes off too. This will encourage people to actually fight and help out their side.

I love the chicken system as it provides competitive PvP instead of just a gankfest; there is no skill in a higher lvl just one shotting a lower level.
Only system that would beat this, in my opinion, would be something like what Resistance said (equipment and stats getting reduced) but then they would also have to reduce skills; would be kinda hard to implement.

I think it's a very, very catchy idea. I can see future PVP based MMO's implanting this to sop pathetic ganking. Not that I've got to try it out, but it sounds like a real hoot. Does anybody have any links to any videos of this?
